Key Vela by Jopen - review by Kitka

The Key Vela by Jopen is a traditional style vibrator that's meant to be used vaginally so it's best used on women. Anal use is not suggested, especially if you're quite the advanced anal player, since there is no flared base on this vibrator. It should definitely be covered with a condom between uses if sharing with a partner that you're not fluid-bonded with yet.

The Vela is not a great option for g-spot play because it's not curved at all and it doesn't really bend at all. The stiffer silicone used on this toy wouldn't be great for beginners either because it isn't very squishy and it is on the larger side diameter-wise. Size and power queens may be delighted with this toy since it delivers awesome rumbly vibrations and a decently large size.

Being waterproof makes the Vela a toy you can take in the bathtub or shower if that's something you like to do with your toys. The waterproof ring around the battery cap keeps the water from getting inside and ruining the motor.

This vibrator can definitely be used as foreplay to tease your partner, during sex to help stimulate while being penetrated by something else or as a fun solo session to treat yourself. Just use a bit of lubricant and enjoy!

The Key Vela is comprised of silicone for the main body or shaft portion, ABS plastic for the battery cap and stainless alloy for the control button. Since the silicone is the only insertable part, that earns it a 10 out of 10 rating on the Eden materials safety scale. It also means this toy is hypo-allergenic, non-porous, latex- and phthalates-free and food-grade material.

The silicone is luxuriously smooth but not very plushy or flexible, it is quite rigid for silicone. This toy comes in three different colors; Blue, Lavender and Raspberry and I chose the blue. The silicone is matte on this vibrator while the plastic is shiny and somewhat resembles glass. The metal button is also shiny and has the Key logo imprinted on it.

The texture on the Vela is made up of a bunch of bulges that swirl around the shaft of the toy and can definitely be felt during use. Since it is textured, large and made of velvety silicone use water-based lubricant with it to get a good gliding sensation when playing with the Vela. There really weren't any noticeable odors upon opening the packaging but be sure to wash before and after each use to keep lint and hair off it.

The Vela is a traditional vibrator in that it's pretty much a straight up and down sort of design. The plastic handle is a darker blue than the shaft and it contains the stainless steel alloy button on the end where the plastic is cut on a bias. Moving down the shaft you find the seam where the plastic meets the silicone material and it's angled down to the left side. The bulges start about 1/4" from the plastic end and continue down the entire shaft, all angled to the left just like the plastic handle. The tip of the vibrator is rounded and there is a visible seam that crosses it and runs down each side of the shaft but it cannot be felt during use.

The entire vibrator measures 8 1/4" long with an insertable length of 4 3/4" and the diameter is 1 5/8" or 5" in circumference. It is a little heavy for a vibrator but it's still under a pound in all.

The Key Vela runs on four AAA batteries and is controlled using the single stainless steel alloy button located on the battery cap. Just one press of the button turns the toy on and every subsequent press of the button cycles through the 7 vibration patterns described as follows:

1. Steady vibration
2. Very fast pulsing
3. Wave (Gradual up and down fluctuations)
4. Pulse (Quick one second pulses)
5. Throb (2 high pulses, 3 low pulses, repeat)
6. Flutter (3 seconds of very fast pulsing, 1 second pause, repeat)
7. Tease (High, drops low, repeat)

All of the vibration patterns are executed on a high rumbly setting, there are no other intensity levels available in this toy. The vrooms of the vibrations are probably a solid 4, "strong and easily felt vibrations that powerfully stimulate, but are not "earth-shaking". Most ladies will be pleased with the rumbly and powerful vibrations unless they prefer something more buzzy in nature.

The Key Vela is also not very loud considering how powerful it is. It will not be heard through a closed door at all but through blankets could be possible. It would be easily covered with some background noise so dorm use is definitely possible with this vibrator.

The controls on the Vela are not lockable and the button is very easily depressed so removing the batteries before storing it away or traveling is necessary to avoid vibrating storage boxes or luggage. It's also always a good idea to remove the batteries just in case they decide to explode, that way they won't crap up the inside of the battery compartment. Using rechargeable batteries is actually suggested in the instruction manual so this vibrator will definitely run on them.

The Key Vela is easy to clean because it's waterproof; just wash it with warm water and antibacterial soap or toy cleaner. You can also wipe it down with toy wipes or disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or a 10% bleach solution but be sure to rinse it off thoroughly to avoid introducing harsh chemicals into sensitive body areas.

To store the Vela just slip it into the handy storage pouch that was included in the packaging or keep it in the box it came in. Either way would be simple to store the toy long term and they can be tossed in wherever you keep your other toys stored.

The Vela comes packaged in a box that color coordinates with the toy itself, so this one came in a blue and black box. The top of the box has a ribbon loop that sticks out of a hole in the paperboard. The blue portion of the box, which slides off the black part, has a picture of the toy on it and the Key logo. On each side of the blue box there is information about the toy listed in several different languages and all of it is listed in English on the back along with a small picture of the entire toy. Also on the back is the website for Jopen and KeyPleasure.



After you slide off the blue portion you're left with the black box which has a flap on the front that opens to reveal the toy inside and a blank blue panel. On the back of the black box is listed the same information about the toy that was on the blue portion but the bottom half has some added details about measurements and materials.

Inside the box the toy sits nestled in a foam cutout which lifts up with a pull ribbon to reveal the storage pouch, warranty booklet and instruction manual that are all included. The storage pouch is a stiff, crinkly type of satin with a drawstring top and a small logo tag sewn into the bottom corner seam.

The Vela is probably one of the most powerful vibrators I own aside from the Je Joue Uma and MiMi. The size of this toy and the rigidity of the silicone makes this very enjoyable to use as long as it's lubricated enough. I haven't used this anally because it's too big but I imagine if you're cautious enough and can take larger toys anally that this would be a wonderful addition to anal play.

I would recommend this toy to size and power queens because it's definitely up there power wise and the larger size would be very filling since it's not the squishy kind of silicone.
