Red knit silk panel short - shorts discontinued by Magic Silk - review by Checkmate

For some reason, I have never felt the need to try silk underwear, thinking silk as more of a female fabric. I mean, guys are into cotton, right? I have been wearing microfiber boxer briefs for the past few years, so when the opportunity to give silk a try came up, I figured why not. Other than my wife, who is going to see them? Yes, I might end up in the ER, but at least they will be clean and I really doubt they care what fabric underwear you are wearing.

FABRIC

These shorts arrived in a plastic bag which was inside a retail box, one that you might see in any mid to high end clothing store. The first thing I noticed was how smooth and soft the 100% silk fabric was, with just the right amount of stretch. All the seams layed flat, with no loose threads.

It features a contour pouch which offers the right amount of comfortable support. The elastic waistband is 1" wide and extremely comfortable. Once on, you do not feel the waistband, even when being worn all day. To date I have had no problems with the waistband rolling as I have with others having a waistband of this size. The band is black with white Magic Silk logos.

The bottom of the legs extend 1" from the crotch. I would have prefered they extended slightly further, but it really isn't a deal breaker. When wearing them for extended periods of time, I did notice the leg opening did roll up slightly, but not enough that you actually felt it, just a visual thing.

Not being familiar with silk fabric I was somewhat concerned about any moisture issues. Having worn them all day in an enviroment which created persperation, I found the fabric allowed enough breathability to keep everything nice and dry.

The laundry intructions on the label state to machine wash delicate, cold water, no bleach. Tumble dry no heat. As we have very few clothes that we wash on delicate cycle, I used casual setting and also used casual setting (low heat) when drying. To date this has worked well with no problems.

SIZE

These briefs come in Sm,Med,Lg. When ordering I could not find any size charts. I have a 36" waist and normally wear a large, so I ordered a large size which I normally wear. These fit me perfectly. The box they were packaged in gives the following sizes:
Sm - 28"-30"
Med 32"-34"
Lg 36"-38"

As with many guys, for me underwear is underwear. I wear whatever my wife buys me. The evolution of my underwear started with white cotton briefs changing over a period of time to colored cotton. Somewhere along the line I morphed over to microfiber briefs, and with my wife's enthusiastic support, now wear mainly microfiber boxer briefs. After giving the Magic Silk briefs a chance, I can see myself getting a few more of these. Plus the additional benefit that my wife loves to run her hands over them when I wear them!
