Best Lesbian Romance 2011 - book discontinued by Cleis Press Inc. - review by marshmallow

This book is great. I liked that I could discreetly order it from EdenFantasys because I don't have the most understanding family members. Each story is totally different, yet they all make me really happy and make me temporarily forget about homophobia. The stories are so happy-go-lucky that it really puts the normal "gay = bad" and "gay people = suicide and depression" narrative aside, and I love that. So often I watch movies or read books where gay people are being so oppressed that they kill themselves or they break up with their lover when the story is billed as a romantic comedy, and that's really disappointing.

I like to read these stories before I go to bed because they're comforting. The ones without huge conflicts are my favorites, and the shortest ones seem to be the best. Some of them are a little cheesy and odd, but that makes the book that much more of a gem. I'm always looking for queer romances, and this one did the job really well. I would recommend this to anyone who's interested in reading lesbian romances because it represents us very well. These characters really come to life and are very memorable. This inspired me to write some of my own lesbian romance.

I'm really glad I got this book because I can share it with my partner. It's an intimate experience to read to each other, and this is one of my first forays into erotica. I also really like this collection of lesbian romances because they're all diverse. I didn't feel like I was reading about the same white middle class girls over and over. The authors really switched it up with each story, and that was refreshing. I'm glad I made this purchase, and I'll definitely be looking into purchasing the upcoming Best Lesbian Romances.
