Great Makeup, Cheap Brushes

Not Soap Radio's Bronzed Goddess makeup palette is cute and offers some nice basic natural shades that will work with any skin tone. The colors are pretty intense and have lots of shimmer to them and require very little applied to add color to skin. However, this product does contain parabens. The included brush for the bronzer does not work well at spreading bronzer. I had to use a separate kabuki brush to properly apply it. The lip gloss, while nicely colored and shiny, is very sticky.

Use

Not Soap Radio's Bronzed Goddess beauty palette is a great addition to any makeup bag. It contains eye shadow, bronzer, and lip gloss, as well as the brushes required to apply them in a cute makeup palette. The size is great for travel or keeping in a purse.

The colors included in the palette are all basic, natural colors that should work for just about any skin shade. I was able to wear the bronzer on my super pale skin without looking weird.

This product does contain talc powder in the bronzer and eye shadow, so those with sensitive skin may want to look elsewhere for a beauty palette. I personally avoid products with talc in them, as they tend to clog my pores up pretty quickly.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This kit is pretty simple to apply. The texture of the bronzer and eye shadow compares pretty well to drugstore makeup I have tried. They are both powdery and easy to apply. I noticed that I barely needed to get any product on my brushes to really get a lot of color on my face. Once applied, both the bronzer and eye shadow stayed on my skin for a pretty long time. The eye shadow didn't get lumpy or crease, even after about 6 hours of wear.

The lip gloss is pretty sticky. I actually don't care for it very much. The color and shimmer looks very nice on lips, but it's not that great feeling. I applied a clear lip gloss over the included lip gloss, which took away most of the stickiness and left all of the color. The lip gloss didn't last very long if I ate or drank, but it did last a few hours when I didn't touch anything with my lips.

Taste / Aroma

I did not taste the eye shadow or bronzer, but I did not care for the flavor of the lip gloss. It has a light, yet gross taste like that of lip stick.

The powders have that light scent that is typical with powdery face makeup. It's not heavy or really noticeable unless I stick my nose right over the palette. Once applied, I can't smell it. I noticed no scent to the lip gloss.

Performance

The makeup included in this palette lasts pretty long. I put some on before going to work, and noticed it was still looking good after I got home.

Applying this makeup with the included brushes can be a bit difficult. The bronzer brush is a square cornered short, somewhat stiff brush. This makes it difficult to pick up bronzer and apply it to skin without pretty much flinging it everywhere. Bronzer should be applied in circles to the areas of skin the sun would highlight, like the forehead and tops of cheeks. The square shape of the brush did not allow for easy application. It did not blend well at the edges, so when I was done, I had stripes on my skin that I needed to blend in with my fingers and other brushes. The following day, I applied the bronzer with a kabuki brush, which is bigger and round with rounded edges. This makes it easier to apply in a circular motion and blend out the edges. When I used this brush, the bronzer looked pretty good.

The eye shadow brush is a typical foam brush, so I really have no complaints about it. It's easy to apply to the eyelids and up underneath the eyebrows. I did use my fingers to blend in the makeup a little better, as the eye shadow is very highly pigmented and the brush wasn't blending two colors together very smoothly.

On the other end of the eye shadow brush is the lip brush. This brush is very stiff and difficult to work with at first. I had to work the bristles a little bit to soften them before I could use it the first time. A little water also helped soften them up. Having the eye and lip brushes combined into one piece is annoying, because every time I apply eye shadow, my fingers get covered in sticky lip gloss. Once the lip brush is softened, it applies lip gloss just fine.

I washed it off before bed, because I don't care for leaving makeup on my skin overnight. It cleaned off pretty well, both with a facial cleanser and with just a wet washcloth.

What I really like about this product is the pigmentation and shimmer of the products. I love eye shadow that has a lot of color and shimmer to it. I occasionally will foil my eye shadow to make it show up better. This is applying it with a dampened brush. I use eye drops for foiling. I did not feel I needed to foil any of these eye shadows because they show up so well on my skin. The bronzer looks soft and shimmery, and can be applied heavier to darker skin tones to show up better. Just a tiny bit of bronzer really stood out on my super pale skin.

Packaging

Bronzed Goddess is packaged as a cute color palette. The front has "Bronzed Goddess" written in white with a cute sun and swirl design. The front displays Not Soap Radio's logo, as well. Upon first opening the kit, there's a clear plastic sleeve covering the makeup products inside of the palette. This is easily slid off of the makeup and is really there just to keep powder from spilling everywhere.

The lid of the palette has a small mirror set in the middle. This is surrounded by a shiny, vinyl looking material. The part of the palette housing the makeup and brushes is set in a thick layer of vinyl covered foam. One side holds eye shadow, the middle holds the lip/eye brush, bronzer, and bronzer brush, and the right side holds the lip gloss.

The shades of the makeup are all very natural and should suit any skin tone. The eye shadow comes in a dark slate color, brown, a reddish brown, and a creamy ivory. The lip gloss comes in a peachy pink, a slightly more orange pink, hot pink, and a deep pink. The bronzer has four stripes of color, but these will swirl together when you use a brush on it.

The palette is a little messy. I have a lot of powder all over it from applying makeup. It can be wiped off with a damp cloth.

The mirrored lid will seal down on the palette with magnets. It seals pretty well, so you don't have to worry about makeup and brushes going everywhere if you throw this in your purse. This set would be pretty good for travel, though I would make sure to lay it flat during extended amounts of traveling or if it will be bumped around a lot, just in case.

On the back of the palette is the ingredient list as well as a list of the contents. As I've said before, this includes 4 eye shadows, 4 lip glosses, a bronzer, a lip/eye applicator, and a blush/bronzer brush. The total weight is .51 oz, with .09 oz eye shadow, .07 oz lip gloss, and .35 oz bronzer.

Ingredients:

Eye shadow: Talc, Mica, Magnesium Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride Kaolin, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Phenoxyethanol, MethylparabenA, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben. May Contain: Black Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Yellow Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Red Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarine (CI 77007), Mica & Iron Oxide (CI 77019, 77491), Mica & Titanium Dioxide (CI 77019, 77891)

Lip gloss: Polybutene, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Ceresin Wax, Microcrystalline Wax (Cera Microcristallina), Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Theylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Ascorbyl Palmitate. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Black Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Yellow Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Red Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Yellow 5 Al Lake (CI 19140:1), Red 7 Ca Lake (CI 15850:1), Blue 1 Al Lake (CI 42090:2), Mica & Titanium Dioxide (CI 77019, 77891), Iron Oxide (CI 77861)

Bronzer: Talc, Mica, Magnesium Stearate, Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Octyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben. May Contain: Black Iron Oxide (C.I. 77499), Yellow Iron Oxide (C.I. 77492), Red Iron Oxide (C.I. 77491), Manganese Violet (C.I. 77742), Ultramarine (C.I. 77007), Titanium Dioxide (C.I. 77891), Iron Oxide (C.I. 77861).

Basically, these contain a few ingredients that may be irritating to users. There are parabens in all three products, as well as talc in the bronzer and eye shadow. Mica is used to add shimmer to all three products. If you have sensitive skin, I recommend doing a small spot test to make sure these will not irritate your skin. I personally have somewhat sensitive, acne-prone skin and noticed no irritation with occasional use of this. I am avoiding every day use, since the talc will start to clog my pores up and cause my acne to get worse.

Personal comments

I think this palette will work great as a gift to any woman. The shades will work great with any skin tone and eye color, since they are all natural colors. I found I did not have to apply much to cover my pale skin, and the darkest colored eye shadow, which is a slate color, worked well with my green eyes. I applied the creamy ivory color over my eye lids, ending just under my eyebrows. This shade will also work well underneath eyes to brighten them up.

When I apply this makeup, I use it over my normal mineral powder foundation and powder finish. Applying both of these before the bronzer helps my skin to stay a little more shine-free. As my skin gets oily and shiny, the bronzer can start to give too much shimmer to my skin. Using oil-absorbing sheets to pat out oily areas can help.

I noticed that the bronzer will smudge onto clothing, so it is best to apply after dressing. It's easy to wipe off of clothing with a damp cloth.

I took some pictures of the palette and my face when I applied the makeup. My camera didn't really show the bronzer or eye shadow very well at all.

As I said, I do not care for the lip gloss. It's too sticky feeling for me, even though it has a nice color. I prefer lip glosses that feel smooth on my lips.
Follow-up commentary
I finally caved in and bought some nicer brushes to go with this. I'm liking the eye shadow a lot more now that I am not using crappy foam brushes. Instead, I have a full eye makeup kit with soft bristled brushes that are easier to apply eye shadow with.
