I'm Lounging Poolside

Not Soap Radio's Lounging Poolside palette would make a great gift for someone new to makeup or for someone who wants an easy travel kit. The quality is about what you would find in most drugstore makeup brands. The kit features four shadows, four shimmering glosses, and a blush-like bronzer as well as tools to apply them with.

Use

Not Soap Radio presents an all in one palette that includes everything you need for a put together look. It comes with four eyeshadows, four lip glosses, a bronzer, a blush brush, and a two in one eye and lip brush. It makes a perfect gift for yourself or someone you know. The packaging is beach themed, so it would be perfect for taking pool side for quick touch ups. It's also great for travel when you don't want to bring your entire makeup collection with you. The kit comes with your choice of cover - Lounging Poolside, Bronzed Goddess, or Beautiful Bride. Not Soap Radio's website says that the colors in each palette are the same.

The colors for the eyeshadows are neutral and should be universally flattering. The bronzer is light and would be well suited to fair skin tones. The lip glosses comes in a range of sheer wash tones and there will be something for everyone amongst these.

You should check the ingredients for any potential allergies or sensitivities.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The eyeshadows and the bronzer are talc based. What this means for the texture is that they will have a powdery feel and finish. They are soft to the touch. It is a similar feel to if you ran your hands in baby powder. For if it stays in place, etc., I'll go into that information in the performance section since it's more applicable there.

The lipglosses feel slick. They do not feel goopy or sticky. While they do not feel sticky on the lips, some hair does tend to stick to them. There is a shimmer to the gloss, but not a glitter, so you won't feel any abrasion to the gloss. They feel nice on the lips, but are not moisturizing since they are glosses and not balms. They are not overly drying as some glosses can be.

Taste / Aroma

The shadow and bronzer both smell like the talc base that they have. Similar to the description of the feel, the smell is that of baby powder. It's not overwhelming and you would have to bring your nose to the makeup to smell it. Do not taste these products! Talc is not safe for ingestion.

The lipgloss is unscented. There is a slight generic gloss scent to it. It does not taste pleasant, but isn't so terrible that if you get it in your mouth you'll have to run for a drink. It tastes somewhat like a petroleum jelly.

Performance

In this part I will break down by product and go into details of each one. I'm also going to go over the colors of everything here. First, I wanted to put up a picture of the palette. There are no names for the colors, so I need something to reference so you know which color I'm referring to.

Eyeshadow

Let's start with the colors. At the top, you have a cream shimmer. This has the most sparkle of all of the colors. The next color down is a light plum. This looks like a shimmer in the palette and when swatched, but when applied tends to look more like a sheen. The next color down is a light brown. This has less sparkle when swatched and applies almost completely matte. The bottom color is a dark royal purple. Like the brown, it has very little sparkle in the palate and when applied appears matte.

The top swatches are applied over Smashbox Photo Primer. It is about four layers of color to get to that pigment. The bottom swatches are without primer. It is five layers to get to that pigment.

The pigment on these is about what you would find in a Wet 'N Wild kit or a Hard Candy kit. You have to bulk up the product on the brush and then layer it a few times to get a lot of pigment to come through. With just one sweep of color, these are very sheer. As mentioned, primer will help some with this.

These blend fairly easily together. I used my own makeup brushes as opposed to the ones included as I find sponge applicators to be awkward. I was able to get the colors to come together nicely. They don't blend perfectly and it took a bit of time to achieve the blended look I was aiming for, but it is doable.

These have a powdery finish to them. It is somewhat chalky and matte, even in the shimmer and sheen colors.

With primer, these last all day. I cannot attest to how long these would last without it as I always use eye primer. Usually eye makeup will last a significant amount of time less without it.

The eyeshadow will mostly come off with just water. It will fully come off with eye makeup remover or face wash.

Bronzer

The bronzer is more of a blush. The color is almost an antique rose. When swatched, it has a shimmer to it. When applied, you can see the shimmer but it also has a chalky finish, like the shadows.

The pigment on the bronzer is very light. To get that swatch took about ten layers of color.

You can build the color up on this. The problem is that, since this is a talc product, it is easy to get a cakey appearance if you apply too much of the product. It is recommended that you not apply more than a few layers of the product.

It is hard to say how easy to blend this is as it is difficult to see the color on the face. From what I could tell, it did seem to blend fairly easily, as the shadows did.

The color does not last very long since it is so light. Perhaps a few hours at most. The talc appearance will last a bit longer.

This will come off mostly with water and completely with makeup remover or face wash.

Lip Gloss

The top color is a fuchsia pink. It has a pearl shimmer in it. The second color is a baby pink with a pearl shimmer in it. The next color is a nude with pearl shimmer. The last color is peach with pearl shimmer.

Here you can see them applied in heavy form and then below it you'll see the color that will actually apply to your lips. All of these apply as a light sheen. The underlying pigment is somewhat noticeable when you apply the gloss, but not so much so that if a color isn't right for you that you wouldn't actually be able to wear the gloss. They are all fairly light colors. The shimmer level on them all is high.

These last about an hour, give or take. Glosses don't tend to last too long in general, as would a lipstick or lip liner. You will need to reapply this if you want to keep the color on all day. If you eat or talk a lot, the time will go down. If you don't use your mouth at all, you may be able to extend this time frame.

Packaging

There is no external packaging for this, just the palette itself. The front says "I'm not here, I'm really lounging at a beachfront resort" with a nice little blurb about how nice the beach is. It says "reality is subjective" and "Not Soap Radio." It has pictures of beachy things on it such as flamingos and umbrellas. The back lists the ingredients.

When you open the palette, you will find the makeup as well as a mirror and the included brushes.

You get a total weight of .09oz of shadow, .07oz of gloss, and .35oz of bronzer.

Note that there is some fallout of the colors. Basically, once the powder is broken it starts to go everywhere. If you travel with this, keep it in a plastic bag to avoid makeup going everywhere.

Experience

First, my disclaimer. Before I reviewed for Eden I ran a makeup blog where I reviewed makeup and did daily looks. My makeup collection is larger than my toy collection and has been around a lot longer (since I was 11!). As such, I have a lot of high quality makeup stashed away and have pretty high expectations for any new makeup in order for it to be something I'm willing to use. High quality doesn't always mean high price, mind you. I just have certain attributes that I look for in makeup before I'm willing to use it regularly.

This makeup didn't have those traits. Generally, I look for a lot of pigment. I had to keep putting my brush back in the pan to get color to build up. Now, if you're new to makeup, low pigment can be a good thing. It means it's easier not to mess up and end up looking like Mimi on Drew Carey. For me, I don't want to constantly be dipping my brush just to get a sheer wash of color.

I look for a nice finish. All of this looked chalky to me. This is because of the talc. I'm a big mineral makeup fan, though it's not the only thing I use. Perhaps I've been spoiled.

The colors of the shadows are pretty. I made a really nice look with the first, second, and fourth eye colors. (First on brow, second as base, fourth in crease). Purple is one of my favorite eye color shades, so the colors worked well for me.

I do like the glosses. They have a lot of shimmer to them. They don't last the longest and they have more stick than I would like and they don't plump. I'm not as picky with my gloss as I am with my other makeup though, so I like these. However, I apply gloss at least once an hour every day. I would go through one of these colors in a day. It's not worth it to carry this around all day for that.

I could see getting this for a young cousin or something for a first makeup kit. Just like I wouldn't buy a newly licensed driver a Mercedes, I wouldn't give a new makeup user a high pigmented kit. I especially wouldn't give them a high quality $20+ single pot eyeshadow. So this has its place. I think it could make a really cute present for the right person.
