Kissing in a Winter Wonderland??

If you love a natural vanilla scent and don't mind lip gloss that is sticky and thick and may take an hour or so to really soak into your lips, this is a great product for you. It is also nicely packaged if you wish to give it as a gift.

However, if you prefer a lip gloss that glides on or want "kissable lips" that don't stick to your partner when they try to walk away, I'd suggest you look elsewhere.

This is a great product, just not sure it is a great value.

Use

Cake Beauty has come out with a thick, sensuous nearly-nude line of lip glosses that add shimmer and sparkle to your lips. With the glitter and shine in these glosses, I recommend them more for evening use than daywear.

The set is made up of three glosses: Vanilla Frost, Pink Icicle and Gold Glimmer.

Vanilla frosted is creamy pearl with an "opalescent shine". I find it to be a very pale pink which mainly gives the lips some sparkle and glimmer without much color.

Pink Icicle is supposed to be sheer pink with a diamond sparkle. As others have noted, it is more of a bubblegum pink color.

The final shade is the Gold Glimmer. This one is supposed to be nude with a golden sheen.

I tried to put these on my arm to show you the colors but that did not work because they were too light. So instead, I put them on a white sheet of paper.

I was also able to get my daughter to model one for you.

Here she is without the lip gloss:

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This lip gloss is VERY thick and very sticky. When I was kid, I'd play with a tiny dot of paste between my thumb and my forefinger to see how sticky it would be and watch it form little threads back and forth.

This lip gloss is not quite that thick but close. I find that it is also very shiny and very pretty once it is put on.

I wanted to find a way to compare it to others so I picked up some lip gloss at the local dollar store. I found that the New York Color brand went on very easily and smoothly. The L.A. Colors was a bit more stiff but still nowhere near as thick as the Cake lip glosses are.

Taste / Aroma

My husband loved the taste when he kissed me. He said that it reminded him of vanilla sugar cookies which was what it reminded me of also. I know others have compared it to vanilla cake mix, but for me it has a sweeter smell and taste than that. However, while my husband was willing to kiss me once with it on,he preferred kissing me without it more. He said that it felt very thick and sticky and he preferred my lips to be more natural.

When I asked my daughter to model more colors later on, she was ok with doing so but really wasn't excited about it. It felt sticky to her also for an hour or so after she'd tried the first one.
    • Strong smell

Performance

I know that I've talked a lot about how thick and sticky this product is and I don't want to give you the idea that it is bad. I found it to be very long-lasting and it did not have to be reapplied for a long time. Once it absorbed into my lips, it did so very nicely and made my lips soft.

I think if I wanted to wear this to have "kissable" lips when my husband was coming home from work, I would apply it an hour or so before he came home so that the stickiness would go away and my lips would be soft.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Gets sticky
    • Long lasting

Packaging

Cake did an excellent job packaging these lip glosses for those who want to give them as a gift. Let me share some pictures with you. You can even use the label on the back of the box to share who the gift is for and who it is from.

Special Features

I would like to add that the lip glosses are paraben free and do not contain Triclosan.

Personal comments

There are some things that I want to point out before I get to the end of this review.

First of all, I have no doubt that Cake Products make high quality items. I must admit that the vanilla smell of this lip gloss has no chemical aftertaste and is very pleasant. In addition, the packaging is very professionally done and would be a pleasant surprise in anyone's stocking or under a tree.

But while I like quality in my life, I often have to also consider value or the "cost per use" of an item. Therefore, it bothers me that I have 3 tubes that are .37 fluid ounces each for $24.99 when I can buy a .32 fluid ounce tube at the dollar store for $2. To be honest with you, I even preferred the smell of the NYC color lip gloss (.24 fluid ounces) over the Cake's vanilla scent - and vanilla is one of my favorite scents!

So I feel myself really torn over how to rate this - because I know so many times we may buy products based on a number of 5 star reviews.
