Pretty, but not my shade

While this product isn't what I was expecting, it's halfway between being a lipstick and a gloss, it's certainly not a bad purchase. If the color is something that you like and you're more fond of 'lighter' makeups, I certainly would suggest giving this one a go.
Published:
Pros
Vivid color, fairly natural look, mineral-based, shiny, small container, smells and tastes nice
Cons

Use

This little tube of makeup is sold as a lipstick, but instead of being a more traditional style and consistency I would peg it as being about halfway between a lipstick and a lipgloss. It's much thinner and less moisturizing than a lip balm, so if you are looking for a treatment this may not be your best bet.

Lip sticks are meant to be applied to the lips, and can be used on top of a lip conditioning balm for a smoother look, or can be layered with lip gloss if you're seeking the shine of a gloss but the deeper color that this product provides. If you try and apply a balm over it it both prevents the balm from moisturizing your lips and wipes off some of the color, so that's not recommended.

Because of the consistency, price, and size this really isn't recommended to be used as any other make up. It's not a good eyeshadow, eyeliner, or blush, so you should probably invest in something else if that's what you need to purchase.

You also should not use this on any part of your body other than your lips, though if it doesn't irritate your lips it probably is SAFE to use on any other external area. It advertises being a mineral based make up, so you should always do a spot test before smearing this all over your mouth in case you end up having an allergic reaction.

The ingredients are as follows:

Macadamia Nut Oil, Sustainable Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sustainable Palm Kernel Oil, Beeswax, Castor Oil, Mica & Flavor Oil

Because there are all natural ingredients, this is more healthy and natural than almost any other beauty product I've seen. On the other hand, there's a chance that you'll run into a natural product you're allergic to. Fortunately none of these are super common allergies, though it does contain a small amount of mica.

Overall, this is a nice lip product, but if you're looking for a thick lip stick with a lot of staying power, this is more like a gloss in that sense. The natural ingredients are really a treat to use, and it looks great both over lip balm or under lip gloss.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

As I stated above, this product is at the halfway point between lipstick and lip gloss. I usually consider lip stick to be the middle ground between lip gloss and lip balm, but this is just from my own personal experience. This thinner, lighter consistency will be a pro and con for different people.

You dispense this product by twisting the base of the dispenser, much like lip balm or lip stick. It stays in stick form while it's past the confines of the shaped tube. If you heat it up by keeping it in your pocket or leaving it in your purse in the car for a few minutes it does begin to lose it's shape.

When you apply it it glides on, and it's pretty oily as far as lip products go. This is because of the ingredients listed. When you rub your lips together they feel slick, almost as if you have a light layer of lip gloss on. When on it feels a LOT thinner than standard lip gloss.

This thin consistency makes it easy to remove if you don't like it or you put too much on, but it also makes it easy to come off when you're eating, drinking, or kissing. It's also easier to smear than lip stick because it's so much thinner.

I really haven't noticed that this product 'dries,' more that your lips absorb a bit of the oil and it gets less slick. I found that it faded and needed reapplication in about 4 hours when I wasn't eating, drinking, or kissing.

Overall, this is a great product... As long as you don't go into it EXPECTING a lip stick. If you keep in mind that this is a middle ground between lip stick and gloss, you won't have the same 'Eh? This isn't what I ordered' reaction I did when I first pulled it out of the box to try on.

Taste / Aroma

To me, the scent of lip products is more important than the scent of perfumes. If it's going on my lips I'm going to taste it, and if it's going to be right under my nose it had better not even threaten to give me a headache. I am glad to report that I had no problems with this product in either taste or scent.

When you hold this up to your nose, it just smells 'make-up-y.' It hasn't had any artificial scents added to it, but it's also not unpleasant to smell. It smells like almost every other stick of lip stick that I own. It's not going to give you a headache, and it's almost impossible to smell a few minutes after you apply it.

This product does seem to have an added flavor to it, but to me it just tastes sweet and waxy. It's almost the same taste as all other lipsticks I have, which is to say that it's not bad if you do end up ingesting it, but it's also not going to have you licking it off your lips because it's yummy. If you're eating or drinking anything (even water) you're not going to be able to taste the trace amounts of this that get in your mouth along with your food.

Overall, this is well scented and tastes nice enough, though neither are a highlight of the product. They're both tolerable, and neither tend to interfere with normal, daily use.

Performance

When it comes to performance, I find that this product leans more towards acting like a gloss than a lip stick. You apply it by running a thin layer over your lips, and then you do the thing where you rub them together to even out the coat. If you're used to dabbing off your excess lipstick with a handkerchief to keep it from smearing, this isn't going to work well with this product because you'll just end up removing the color and making it splotchy.

When you go to kiss or sip at something, this product comes off like crazy! I just gave my boyfriend a peck on the cheek after having this on for about half an hour, and my lipstick was blotchy and his cheek had a huge red spot on it. This is why I stated that it's much more like a gloss.

Because of this you can wipe it off pretty well, but if you want it ALL off you need to wash it off with soap and water. This is easy to do, and it cleans up well. I haven't noticed it staining either fabric or skin, which is always a plus.

If you're looking to get a darker, deeper color applying more of this stuff won't make the color more vivid or deeper. If you apply a second layer over the first layer you just end up with really gooey, goopy lips and smeared make up.

Below to give you a good idea of the coverage and color, I applied a thin coat and smushed my lips together before taking the 'after' photo. It's a bit shinier than normal lip stick as well, which didn't show up quite as nicely in the photo below.

Here I am before the product:

Packaging

The packaging of this product also seems to acknowledge that it's not quite as classy and thick as normal lip stick, but that it's thicker than lip gloss. When you pull it out of the box it's wrapped and sealed in a plastic layer, but it doesn't come in a box for storage or anything.

The plastic layer is pretty hard to get off, especially because it both prevents the removal of the cap and the twisting of the base. It would be easy to remove if you didn't want to keep the part with the label on it, but I feel like it's something that will frustrate people unnecessarily.

On the tube, the label just states the brand, product, color, and gives the short list of ingredients. There's nothing on there to give away that you got it on Eden, so it's fine to get to give as a gift. The label can be hard to read because it's black on the dark color red of the product, but other than that I have no complaints.

When you twist the base to get the product out, you can't twist it to get it back in. This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, especially since you can't press it in like chap stick because it's so soft. This has resulted in the lid of mine getting all goopy and red since I twisted it out a bit for the pictures you see below.

If you use this a few times a day, every day, this should last you for about two months. If you use it less it should last longer, especially since you only need a thin layer of it to color your lips.

Experience

When I got this as an assignment I was just STOKED! I had long been posting for lipstick in the "EF Should Carry" threads, and when one popped up IO got it as a push assignment. Unfortunately, the product was not all that I hoped it would be.

I think that a lot of it is that I really do prefer thicker products, be it make up or lotion. If you're not a fan of how 'heavy' regular lipstick feels on your lips but want something that is a bit more pigmented than lip gloss, I would highly recommend this product.

I think that the other issue I have with this is the shade. I was hoping it would be a warm, red shade but what I got was a cooler, almost more natural look than I usually go for. The shade is called 'Venom,' but I don't know if Eden plans on carrying any other colors. Again, this is really just my own personal preference.

My own preferences aside, I am giving this product 4 out of 5 stars. The ease of smearing it or it coming off and looking splotchy is a bit of a problem, and I don't think that anyone's going to like that you can't retract it once you twist it out too far.

@ Kira and Mistre$$- Thank you so much! I think that it's more just not the color I'm used to wearing. I try and stick with warmer colors, but it might grow on me! You two are so sweet!

Fabulous review as always! It's too bad it smears so easily but it does look great right after applying it

I also agree that it looks quite nice on you! Shame it doesn't allow for much layering, though. Thank you for the very helpful review!

I thought this would be darker. Glad it is light but that would probably be to light for my lips. Great review thanks for sharing.

I love the color, but I can't use something that's going to transfer that easily. Nice review, though!
