The Great Massage Oil Showdown - Kama Sutra

We came to the conclusion that if you want a longer massage that is more sensual and sexy and perhaps a bit more oily, the Kama Sutra oil is the best choice. If you want a massage that feels richer and is more pampering and doesn't need to be massaged in as long, DONA is the best choice as it sinks in quickly.

Both products were five star products when it came to performance and scent.

Use

This week I bought two different massage oils although my husband and I are not big on massages. My intention was to use the massage oil shortly after getting out of the shower and patting myself dry, because I know the oil will lock in the moisture from the water and help my skin stay softer.

However, my daughter, who gives excellent massages I must admit, saw both bottles and decided we should do a massage oil showdown, using my back for the test.

While we limited our massage to my back, this could be done with your lover on your arms, legs, neck, etc. You are limited only by your creativity.

The ingredients in this oil are:
Glcycerine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Pistacia Vera Seed Oil, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Lecithin, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The Kama Sutra oil did not feel as "rich" as the DONA oil did. It felt thinner too and when we tried it on my arm, it ran even before I turned my arm sideways.

Here are some pictures to show you the texture.

The Kama Sutra tries to run off even before I turn my arm sideways (I'm holding it flat here)

I believe some of the Kama Sutra actually made it to the floor because it ran so fast.

Taste / Aroma

Have you ever smelled PURE almond extract? If not, I encourage you to open a bottle of this at the grocery store the next time you do your shopping and take a whiff.

Now take that scent, remove some of the alcohol which makes it so strong and put it into a batch of sugar cookies. To me, that is exactly what this oil smells like, a batch of sugar cookies where pure almond extract has been added instead of vanilla.

When my daughter was massaging half of my back with this scent, it seemed to float downward so that I smelled the almond scent more than she did.

Performance

When my daughter used this to massage the right side of my back, one of the things she noticed was that the skin underneath "blushed" as if it was warming. I did feel a slight warming effect but nothing major.

Also, I had a stronger experience with the scent since it seemed to sink downward so I felt like I was smelling the sweet almond oil. She did not get much of the scent herself, even though she loves the scent.

Of the two oils, while this did go into my body, it also stayed on top of my body longer to be massaged in. She said that she almost kept wanting to rub this and massage it in because it was still on top of my skin. The DONA oil on the other hand, went into my skin faster and if she wanted to massage it for as long a period of time as this one, she would have to reapply the oil. However, the DONA massage oil had already left the skin moist, so there was not a "need" to reapply it. She was simply stating that she could massage my back longer with this oil without reapplying it.

For both products, she used about an amount about the size of 1 1/2 quarters total spread out over 4 or 5 spots.
    • Long lasting

Packaging

Both products have flip-top caps which makes it easy to open and pour some out. You can see a picture of them both below.

The Kama Sutra is 4 ounces and the DONA is 4.7 ounces.

Personal comments

About 90 minutes after the massage, my back started itching - a lot. About 120 minutes later, I had to take a shower.

The DONA side was not itching and in fact, it felt quite smooth and soft. The Kama Sutra side was soft, but it was the side that was itching.

I just started using the Dona for moisturizer after the shower because my husband didn't really like the scent and he's the one that gets massages. I really like how it leaves my skin soft.
