You're Better Off Just Not Wearing Deodorant At All

The Pheromone Deodorant by System Jo just didn't work well for me. Though the product page says that it is unscented, it actually stinks really bad. I don't really like the roll-on applicator, but I could have forgiven this if it didn't stink and leave my armpits feeling itchy. If this was the last deodorant on earth, I'd choose to be natural and just not wear any at all.

extremely useful review
I was really excited to try the Pheromone Deodorant for Women by System Jo because though pheromone products have not really worked for me in the past, I thought that maybe this time it would be different. Also, I figured that even if the pheromones did not work, I’d be left with a deodorant.

The deodorant arrived in a cylinder-shaped bottle with a clear, plastic twist-cap on the top. The bottle had clear, plastic sealing around it. There was no other packaging with the deodorant (like most hygiene products, they are sold in the container they are in). Below is a photo of both the front and back of the bottle.

The front of the bottle states the brand, the product name, and the size. The back of the bottle states the directions, a warning, and the company contact information. Both directions and warning are printed in four different languages. On the side of the bottle, the ingredients are listed. The ingredients as stated on the bottle are as follows:

Zinc Ricinoleate, Xanthan Gum, Chamomile Extract, Potassium Alum, Phenoxyethanol, Estratetaenol, Alcohol Denat, Aqua (Purified Water).

This deodorant has a roll-on applicator, which I am not really used to. I personally do not like the roll-on deodorants but some people may prefer them. The directions on the bottle say that the deodorant should be shaken well before application. The warning on the bottle states that the bottle should be kept out of reach from children, and to stop using the product if irritation occurs (pretty obvious information in my opinion).

The bottle is 2.5oz (75mL) so it should last quite a while, even if used daily. The product page states that the deodorant is unscented… this is not true. When I first twisted off the lid to sniff the deodorant, I was overwhelmed with a very stinky scent. My partner was sitting beside me and I asked him to take a whiff of the deodorant. After he had smelled it, he made a cringed face and said that it smelled like a “dirty bathroom”. I didn’t think that is what it smelled like, but at the same time, I cannot figure out what to compare the smell to. It just stinks!

I decided to use the deodorant anyway, for the sake of the review. The deodorant is a clear liquid that you apply by rolling it onto your armpits. One nice thing about the roll-on applicator is that you do not end up using too much since the applicator controls the amount provided. When I put the deodorant on, the scent was just so terrible. It really does have a “dirty” stench to it. Luckily though, the stink does fade.

The deodorant dries quite quickly after application, and for the most part, it dries clear. After it had dried on my skin, I noticed that it left a bit of a cracked look to my skin (the way your skin looks when it’s really dry). My skin was not cracking, but the deodorant left a few white marks that made my skin look dry, and as if it were peeling.

About 5 minutes after application, the strong scent had faded to a medium strength scent. 10 minutes later, and the scent was minimal. The scent does not seem to go away. The scent lingers on the skin, though I had to put my nose really close to be able to smell the deodorant stench. I suppose this deodorant scent is tolerable after 10 minutes, as long as you don’t plan on having anyone’s nose close to your armpits.

As for the pheromone aspect of the product… I’m going to have to give this aspect a thumb’s down. My partner did not like the scent of the deodorant from the very beginning. After I had put some of the deodorant on, he said he prefers my “natural” smell to this deodorant. He also brought up a very valid point… “Why would you be putting pheromones on your armpits anyway? That’s the last place I’m going to sniff on you.” So as for attracting my male partner, it didn’t work so well.

Sometimes pheromone products do not actually work, but the person who is wearing the product feels so confident that they do attract others. The placebo effect is not even possible for this product when I wear it because I feel self-conscious about the stink of the deodorant I’ve applied.
Experience
...continued

I am unable to say if the product works well after sweating because my armpits got itchy so I had to wash the product off my skin. My skin did not seem to be irritated with a rash or any redness, but it did make my skin itchy. If you experience any irritations with the deodorant, washing the product off with soap and water works well. Of course, if the irritation does not go away, you should contact your doctor immediately.

I am pretty disappointed with this product because I really thought it was going to be great. I’ve decided that the product deserves a 1 star rating out of 5. The reason why it gets such a low rating is because it stinks, it leaves a bit of white marks on your skin when it dries, it’s a roll-on deodorant, the pheromones don’t work, and it made my armpits itchy.
Follow-up commentary
I had tossed the deodorant because it just was not something I could see myself using ever again after reviewing it. The deodorant could have been decent if it truly was unscented, but it wasn't. It really is a shame. I expected so much better.

Throw it in the bin. No sense in letting it take up space in your bathroom!

Thanks for the honest review. I always hate writing negative reviews for items I received for free, but of course, the shoppers need that information, and so does Eden.

I always hear that pheromone stuff doesn't work.
  • Contributor: Breas
Yeah, for me, they never really have done anything. My partner claims they work but I think there is a bit of placebo effect going on with him.
