Wonderland pure silicone lubricant - lubricant discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by Ayumi

Wonderland Personal Lubricant is a silicone-based (pure silicone) lubricant manufactured by Doc Johnson. With a pure silicone lubricant, you can expect less irritation, especially with this product when you look at the ingredients. This lubricant is 1 of 5 new lubricants that are upcoming Doc Johnson products in their Wonderland line. The products are listed at the end of the review but this line includes a water-based, natural, tingling, and warming lubricant along with the current product for this review, which is silicone. I will note that there is one more product in the line, Wonderland Potion, which is a Dietary Supplement Energy Drink.

This lubricant would be best for any user (beginner to advanced) who prefers a pure silicone lubricant without a long list of ingredients. It is great for males, females, gifts, masturbation, sex etc. Those looking for a silky and velvety feel will find it here and a life of about 30 minutes with a toy and closer to 45 with a partner, but there are some problems with greasiness and water interactions that might make this more difficult to swallow than any shrinking potion.

INGREDIENTS are key to lubricant selection for most people. For more details on the products see the Truth In Aging Website, which I used for my ingredient information highlights. I will first say that this is glycerin and paraben free and has a minimal number of ingredients. Though the names are intimidating, the ingredients are simple enough. Please read carefully for irritant and allergy concerns.

Cyclopentasiloxane is a silicone fluid commonly used in cosmetic products. It is used as conditioner, delivery agent, lubricant and solvent. This ingredient has a unique fluidity that makes it easily spreadable. When applied to the skin and hair, it gives a silky and slippery feeling to the touch and acts a mild water repellent by forming a protective barrier on the skin. It has been reported to be harmful to marine life, but not necessarily to humans. For humans it can be a skin and eye irritant. A study done found that it can be absorbed into the skin, but most of the product is exhaled out. There is ongoing debate on the safety of this ingredient, but it is used in deodorants and conditioners as well.

Dimethiconol is a silicone fluid also used in cosmetic products for similar reasons as Cyclopentasiloxane. The key difference is that it is meant to be non greasy. It is also a weightier silicone than the one mentioned previously, making it less likely to be absorbed into the skin. It is also labeled as a skin protectant by the FDA.

Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer is a silicone based polymer used in moisturizing lotions.
Dimethicone on its own is a silicone based polymer, widely used in cosmetics. It functions the same as the previous ingredients with the key difference being it works as an anti-foaming agent, and skin protectant as noted by the FDA. Interestingly, the ingredient was found to soothe and protect the skin of individuals suffering from sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) induced irritant contact dermatitis (ICD), and even prevented the formation of ICD in some cases. Further tests have gone on to demonstrate dimethicone's effectiveness in treating contact hand dermatitis, and suggest that the protective barrier, which the ingredient forms on the epidermis, can effectively prevent skin infections. In addition, it works to reduce redness caused by rosacea and can function as an anti-inflammatory.

Product Interactions
Because this is a silicone based lubricant, it cannot be used with silicone toys. You can safely use it with other toys such as glass or plastics.

Not Milk, Not Honey, but Nectar

TEXTURE
WonderLand Personal Silicone Lubricant is a little difficult to describe. It is certainly not sticky during use and it is debatable whether it could be considered greasy. It feels just like you would expect a good silicone lubricant to feel, which is velvety, silky and smooth; not too thick, but you can tell it is there, almost with a feel like a really nice conditioner. However, you do not really get a feel of greasiness until you try to wash it off, at which point it becomes difficult to do so. It leaves a very nice, soft feeling on the skin at first with no visible residue, but it is not easy to wash in totality. It did not bother me at first, until I tried it for anal play in the shower and it repelled water like it was the plague. After drying off I was left with a sticky sort of feeling in and around my anus, that did not go away for a few hours.

CONSISTENCY
Consistency in a liquid can be thought of as being analogous to thickness, but it is usually described in digestible terms. So, if you intended to swallow this lubricant, it would be pretty easy to do. Or, if you are pouring it, is holds together in steady stream without breaking into droplets. (See photo)

THICKNESS
This lubricant is thick enough to provide a slick and protective layer over the skin, but not so thick that it cannot be easily poured and not as thin as water-based lubricant. When you put it on your fingers you can see it although it is a clear liquid. (See photo)

VISCOSITY
I would describe the viscosity of this lubricant as being in between milk and honey or having a medium to low viscosity (like Agave Nectar). In a descriptive sense it flows very easily out of the bottle, but it isn't as runny as milk or as slow moving as honey. Unfortunately, what this also meant was that when my partner quickly put some in his hands and set it horizontally down on the bedside table, the fluid runneth over. So you must remember to close it no matter what, or it will all end up wherever you left it. (I will detail this more in product packaging).

TASTE
The lubricant did not taste like anything in particular. No strong good or bad tastes. It just feels like a tasteless substance in your mouth. So if you are interested in using this for oral, you can, but I would not recommend it mostly because the ingredients are mostly cosmetic and not necessarily the best to ingest.

SMELL
This lubricant did not smell like anything. I imagined a mild floral smell, but I think that was simply imagined. I had my roommate smell it too and she said she could define no distinct smell. I had her compare it to my Bedroom Kandi lubricant, of which we decided had a very light, but definable smell in comparison to the WonderLand lubricant.

Product Life
The product lasts just a bit too long for my liking. It does what it needs to do, which is lube you up well enough for something to pop right in, but when it is time to wash off, it simply won't seem to go away.

Product Clean-up
Because this lubricant has a number of ingredients that act as water repellants, it is perfect for use in the shower, in theory. However, this makes clean-up a tad difficult. I first tried to wash this off of my hands with warm water alone and I could still feel it on my hands. I then tried soap and water and it took a little more off, but I could still feel it on my skin. It was the same problem when I used it anally, which I decided to try first before putting it near my vagina. Because it was several hours before the product has seemingly removed itself from my body, I did not try it vaginally. I had to wash twice anally with soap and a douche to try and remove this lube from my skin and I did not want to go through the same therapy with my vagina which is extremely sensitive as I mentioned in my Bedroom Kandi Lubricant review. The same goes for my toys. It was easier to wash this off of glass than it was plastic, but I still had to soap my glass toy twice and use a cleaner. For the plastic toys I had to spray my cleaner on the toys and let them sit for several minutes to let the molecules break up the silicone so that it could be appropriately washed. The dispenser itself also had to be washed and wiped if you wanted to clean it up totally and keep it from collecting dust.

Product Positives
As I mentioned, this lubricant did the job. It was way easier to use anally than my water-based lubricant and made the experience heavenly, easy, and silky both with toys and my partners penis. He also liked it better in this respect too. It made play time less dangerous in terms of being properly lubricated and we both loved the feel. There was no horrid smell to put up with and no taste.

Product Negatives
I tried very hard to deal with the negatives; the messy dispenser, the difficulty of closing the dispenser, the greasy feel when combining this with water, the seeming inability for this product to leave my skin after repeated washing and a few times where it seemed to dry up and my partner had to reapply...

It isn't that I would not use it again, but not in a hurry, and only if we wanted a quick and dirty instead of a teasing session.

AESTHETICS
WonderLand Personal Lubricant certainly has some thoughtfully designed packaging. It is gorgeous enough that someone would take interest in it and the "WonderLand Personal Lubricant" logo prominently displayed on top of the intricately done W design would have anyone looking well aware of what this was.

Aesthetically, the packaging is pleasing and if you look closely at the high definition enhanced image below, you might be able to see some scenes from Wonderland including the oh so memorable "Eat Me" phrase. Pun intended.

It is not too large of a bottle, but you normally would not need to apply a whole lot of this lubricant for it to do its intended job. Especially as it seems largely resistant to washing off.


PRACTICALITY
When in use, the dispenser is absolutely horrible. There is no way to take off the cap which has to be twisted counter clockwise to be opened. You may need two hands to open this, one to hold the bottle steady, while the other twists the cap. I managed this with one hand with solo play and testing on day 1 and 2, but closing is more difficult once you have the lube on your hands and it can be very greasy on the cap. I hated this dispenser and my partner did as well. It made getting the lube to where it needed to go a complicated and frustrating process and so day 3 ended not so well. We tried it one more time for day 4 for anal, and things went a little better knowing what to expect, but reapplication was not the easiest and having to worry about closing it so it would not spill when he set it horizontally was a pain. Of course that also means you cannot set it standing up (vertically) unless you first close the tube, or else you will have a major mess to clean up. I will also say that when we realized it was spilling when laid horizontally, when we wiped it off the wooden side table, it left a sheen on the table almost like wood cleaners do. (See photo)

As I mentioned, I reviewed this product over a series of 4 days. I took 2 of those days to try it out solo and the other 2 with my partner. I started at 5 and deducted as I moved through my review time and revisited everything as a whole for my final decision. In short, if I find something better, I will most likely move on from this lubricant and my partner too. The most it is coming out for is anal use, which might be sparingly in itself considering how difficult it was not only to handle the product, but to get rid of it.

It is difficult to say whether or not I would recommend it because it performs phenomenally for its intended use. However, in creating a pure silicone lubricant that has about 80% water repelling products to help make it long lasting, there was a bit of a screw up in how in the world to get this off of your body or your toys once you are done. My partner also found it difficult to wash off, but he was not as bothered by it as I was, I suppose mostly because the product never physically enters his body except through the skin. My orifices on the other hand were 100% engaged in this endeavor and were not happy with the aftermath.

So, on the one hand I might encourage you to try it if you do not have a tried and true silicone lubricant and have gone through many other products, but I encourage you to shop around a little bit and don't get distracted by the pretty design. I hope that there is better luck with the other lubes in this line, but this just does not quite make the grade. My experience in conjunction with my partner's amounts to 4 stars, mostly for performance, but if I deduct for everything else, including the fact that I would not recommend this for use with masturbation sleeves that you want to be able to wash out, I have to rate it 2 stars. With that said, I had no horrible irritation or skin reactions despite the product hanging around my body for a few hours after cleaning so, I consider that a good thing, especially because I have very sensitive skin. So users who do have concerns about irritation and do not mind all the other stuff, might be a little nicer about this product.

Finally, we somehow managed to use this without getting it on the sheets, but I will figure out how that works out for my follow-up review.
