The Bad Buzz About Honey Lube

This lube comes in an adorable package and the lube is actually vegan, but that is where the "pros" stop. It is sticky, feels bad during sex or masturbation, and needs to be reapplied constantly to maintain a smooth glide. My recommendation is to try another water-based lube.

Use

When I first got this water-based Honey Lube, it looked so cute! The little honey bear is just adorable and playful looking. I opened it right up in the car, and rubbed a small amount into the back of my hand. I was amazed at how light it felt. It wasn't sticky at all and rubbed into my skin without residue. Since I do not usually have lubrication problems, I thought this would be a great lube to get things started, but it didn't work out so well in actual use.

Since this lube is so thin, I do not recommend it for anal use. It would work best for vaginal use, but as I'm going to explain below, you may not want to use it for that either.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This lube is very thin and runny. It comes with a flip-top cap, and slides out with ease. Just slightly thicker than water, this lube has no real thickness to it at all.

The ingredients are: Water, Propanediol, Carrageenan, Sodium Hydroxymethylgleinate, Citric Acid, Organic Aloe Concentrate, Organic Agave Inulin, Vitamin E Acetate, and Sodium Benzoate.

Many of the ingredients are natural. There were two ingredients in this which I was unsure of, so I decided to email the company to find out if Honey lube is vegan or not. Honey lube contains NO animal ingredients, so that is a plus for vegans out there, or just people trying to avoid chemicals in their lube.

    • Smooth

Taste / Aroma

The smell of this lube is very subtle, and I didn't think it had one until I removed the cap completely and inhaled. Once I did though, I noticed a faint smell of lemonade! I could not resist tasting it, even though this is not meant to be a flavored lube. It does not taste like lemonade! Fair warning, you do not want to taste this. It tastes bitter and sour, and not yummy at all. Do not let the sweet smell fool you like it did me.

    • Light smell

Performance

When it came time to actually use this lube, I was very disappointed. I decided to try it with a toy first, and I have to say it felt "yucky" inside. I smoothed a small amount onto my toy and inserted it. I found that it felt good going in, but after just a little bit of thrusting it seemed to dry up my own juices and leave me with a sticky mess. I had to keep re-applying to keep any kind of glide, and I usually do not need to re-apply at all.

When I tried this with my husband, he had nothing bad to say about it. We applied a small amount to his penis and he never got the same sticky feeling I felt. Even during sex though *I* felt like I was getting sticky and drying up, which is something I never experience on my own, so to have a lube do that to me was disappointing. I really do not recommend this lubricant. There are so many others out there that are much smoother and do not leave you feeling this sticky and constantly needing to re-apply.

Luckily it is very to clean up afterward. Water alone does fine to get this lubricant right off.
    • Dries up too fast
    • Gets sticky
    • Reapply often

Packaging

The packaging is, without a doubt, the cutest lube package I have seen yet. It is much smaller than my actual honey bear, but they look the same. I just love the fun bear shape and the flip-top lid.

The bear is made from a recyclable plastic, and does not leak which is wonderful. It isn't exactly discrete because it says "Honey Lube" in big bold letters on the front, but at first glance, you probably would not know what this is. The lube itself is not the color of honey, but rather closer to a lemonade color. The jar is 6 oz.
    • Does not leak
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Recyclable
Follow-up commentary
My husband and I have both tried to use this lube a couple more times, and it always winds up getting dry and sticky on us. It's just not a very pleasant lube experience for us, and there are other lubes we prefer.

@Alegria Thank you. And yeah, it would have been adorable had it been honey flavored.

Great review thanks guys! I'm the owner of Honey Lube LLC, Maxx Appelman. You should all check our new redesigned website out link, the old one was very plain it was just temporary though. This was our first generation Honey Lube but in the next month we will be coming out with a new formula, the label will be much sleeker with a better color scheme and the same formula used in Slippery Stuff lubricant (it will also be much clearer/translucent). Anyway thank you everyone and feel free to contact me at mappelma@asu.edu and look for us at the upcoming Exxxotica expos this year!

@Nurse Katie Thanks! Yeah, it was a shame. I have heard that they have a new formula now, though I haven't tried it out.
