I love trying out new lubricants, but am unfortunately sensitive to many of the usual ingredients (especially if the lubricant is for oral or vaginal use--I have to just say no to parabens and glycerin), so I was thrilled to find the Hathor Aphrodisia lubricant lickeurs line at Eden! One quick look at the ingredients list told me that the Aphrodisia lubricant is one of the safest flavored lubricants I have ever found. As the Hathor website will tell you, these lubricants are paraben, glycerin, and petroleum free, and better still, they play well with toys and condoms. I honestly don't think you can ask much more of a flavored lubricant, except, of course, for a pleasant taste and lasting lubrication. I am happy to say I found that the Aphrodisia lubricant, which I tested in the chocolate strawberry flavor, made good on both these points.

The consistency of the Aphrodisia lubricants is not like that of most other products I've tried. I tend to favor water-based lubricants, since they're easier to clean up and tend to be gentler on the body, and depending on whether they're for vaginal or anal play, they tend to be thinner or more gel-like, respectively. Hathor's lubricants are, instead, more like a syrup, and are clearly best suited for oral sex. Since the lubricant is sweetened with stevia, it does not pose a problem for vaginal use (which I was only too happy to point out to my partner)! It also adds an extra something special while performing oral sex on him. Because the lubricant is on the runny side, I would not recommend it for any anal play except rimming; it simply does not provide adequate cushioning for penetration. I should also point out that if the lubricant is allowed to pool and/or dry, it can be quite tacky.

The scent of the chocolate strawberry is truly lovely and inviting. The taste came as something of a surprise initially; when Hathor calls this lubricant a "lickeur," they really do mean "liqueur"! There was a very distinct liqueur-like quality to the lubricant (even though the product contains no alcohol), and the chocolate flavor blossomed more gradually, almost a dark chocolate, followed by the sweet berry. As others have noted, the distinct flavor of stevia is also quite noticeable, as a fair amount must have been used to sweeten the product. If you don't like stevia, or if you don't know if you like stevia, this product may be a disappointment for you. I am neutral toward stevia, if only because there seems to be no perfect no-calorie sweetener, and at least stevia is natural. For what it's worth, this lubricant tastes better than all other flavored lubes I've tried.

I found the Aphrodisia lubricant to be surprisingly long-lasting during oral sex. Beyond the aroma and flavor, I enjoyed the way the lubricant slipped over my tongue and the inside of my mouth, transforming my partner's penis into an even tastier treat than usual. I really think of this lubricant as an enhancement to our oral play, more than anything else; my mouth moves over his cock just that much more slickly, and I get to revel in the unusual and unique flavoring. There does seem to be a very slight numbing effect in the mouth and throat, which allows for deeper penetration with greater ease, but fortunately my partner did not notice any ill numbing effects for him. Clean-up is a non-issue if you're using this lubricant for oral sex, since the ingredients are safe to ingest. It is worth noting, however, that the lubricant itself is a translucent, light brown in color and could potentially cause staining on light surfaces (though this did not prove to be a problem for us).

I love the design on the bottle, and wouldn't mind leaving the tube out on a nightstand. It's quite inconspicuous. I was also grateful to see that there was a foil safety seal on the tube prior to using for the first time.
