Review of Jelle - Water-based anal lube

I made no secret in my Aqua review that Wicked lubes are lovely. For general use, Aqua is my favorite lube. For all anal applications, Jelle is my favorite.



It's thick, has amazing staying power and never gets sticky. It does just what you need it to do, with no negative features to overlook. Jelle can be used solo or with a partner. It works wonderfully with toys or for anal sex. Although marketed as an anal lube, it could be used for any application where you need lubrication. There is no reason this can't be used for any type of masturbation or sexual activity. It makes no slurpy, gloppy noises during use, which is very important to me as I find those noises distracting and icky. It performs like a silicone lube, with all the benefits of a water based lube. As it is water based, it doesn't perform well in water. If you use this in the tub or shower, it will wash away fairly easily.

For those of you who haven't tried Wicked Aqua because it contains glycerin, Wicked Jelle is glycerin free.

The Ingredients:

Water - just plain water

Propylene Glycol - a synthetic liquid substance that absorbs water, it acts as a penetration enhancer and keeps products from melting in heat and/or freezing when it is cold

Cellulose Gum - commonly used as a thickening agent in health and beauty products

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe) - juice from an aloe plant, which is believed to have various soothing and healing properties

Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract - a concentration of the liquid of the leaves from an olive plant, this has been marketed as having various anti-aging, immunostimulator, and antibiotic properties

Hydroxyethylcellulose - another thickening/gelling agent used in various household products, cleaners and cosmetics

Disodium EDTA - in shampoos, cleaners and other personal care products EDTA salts are added as a sequestering agent to improve their stability in air

Citric Acid - used as a PH adjusting agent in personal care products

Diazolidinyl Urea - an antimicrobial preservative used in cosmetics

Sodium Benzoate - a preservative

Potassium Sorbate - inhibits the growth of mold and microbes and increases shelf life

Jelle is a thick gel lube, so it will be thicker than the average water based lube out there. The texture is smooth and even, and it glides very nicely between your fingers. It really does remind me a lot of a silicone lube. It squeezes out of the bottle easily, and because it is thicker it doesn't run all over the place. It's easy to dispense a small amount into your hand and place it where you want it to be. It doesn't pour out of the bottle without you squeezing it, so it's easy to regulate how much you dispense.

There is not even a hint of greasiness or stickiness to Jelle. It is very slick and smooth. When rubbed into your skin, it doesn't leave a tacky residue. Your skin feels soft and moisturized afterwards.

Jelle is clear, with no smell at all. Even held right up against my nose, I couldn't detect any sort of odor.

After tasting Wicked Aqua for that review, and noting how awful it tasted, I resolved to not taste this one. It isn't flavored or intended to be eaten, so I suggest you avoid getting it in your mouth. This isn't a lube that is marketed as an oral sex enhancer, so I don't expect them to worry about how it tastes.

I can confidently say you'll be happy with how long lasting this lube. I can lube up my fingers or a toy and play for quite a long time without needing to think about needing more. It creates no friction or heat, and stays slick and comfortable. It doesn't get tacky or sticky. Lots of lube reviews talk about being able to "reactivate" lube with water or saliva if it dries up. With Jelle, you don't even need to worry about that. You won't need to reactivate it. Even though it has amazing staying power, and is a gel, it feels remarkably like natural lubrication. All of the Wicked lubes do an amazing job of adding to your sexual experience without being distracting. Jelle is safe to use with latex condoms, so it doesn't get in the way of safer sex. A thicker water based lube is good to have around, as it can be used for toys no matter what material they are made of, with no fear of a reaction that causes damage to the toy.

When the play is over, you can easily wash it away with a little soap and water. It rinses clean, and leaves your skin feeling smooth and silky. If you put a small dab on your hand and rub it into your skin, it absorbs nicely with no residue or sticky feeling.

I have always been a fan of gel lubes for anal play, and previously used Astroglide Gel. Wicked Jelle is so much better; there is really no contest.

If anal play is part of the evening, we use this lube for everything. There aren't any negatives to using this for any applications where lube is needed. From hand jobs to dildo use to anal sex, this lube can handle it all wonderfully.

Wicked Jelle comes in a black tube. It has a classy and elegant look, and could sit out with your hair products and easily be mistaken for a high end hair gel. It does say anal lubricant, so anyone reading the tube would know what it is, but at first glance it doesn't scream "sex".





The back of the tube gives a clear list of ingredients and mentions the positive attributes of the product. The flip cap fits securely and I've never had the contents leak out, even though it gets thrown in my toy accessories bag and tossed around quite a bit. You have to squeeze the tube to get the lube to come out, which allows you to decide how much to dispense.

I'd say it's discreet enough for travel. Someone would really have to read the label closely to be suspicious that it was more than lotion or hair gel.

Just to give you an idea of the thickness, here is a little comparison.

This is a small amount of Jelle. It doesn't flatten into a puddle, but stays together in a little pile. It's thick enough that there is an air bubble in it.





Here is the same pile of Wicked Jelle, next to a small puddle of Wicked Aqua, so you can see the difference in thickness. Aqua is on the left; Jelle on the right.





This is the same two squirts of lube, with the surface inclined. Notice the Aqua runs down the surface, but the Jelle stays put. I left it that way for over three minutes, and the Jelle didn't budge.
