Wetlook halter top bustier - bustier discontinued by Coquette - review by Breas

The Wet Look Halter Top Bustier by Coquette is available in sizes S and XL. I have the size XL. The bustier would be a nice piece to wear in the bedroom but I intend to wear it out in public. I do this with most of my bustiers and corsets as long as they are not sheer or too revealing. I typically wear them under a shrug or similar article of clothing.

The bustier arrived in a clear plastic bag. There was a cardboard tag attached to the bustier that stated the company name, company website, product name, size, and colour. There were also a few photos of a model wearing the piece. The bag is good for shipping purposes but is not ideal for storing the bustier when you’re not wearing it.

The bustier is 80% nylon and 20% spandex (exclusive of trim). The material does have some stretch to it. The black parts of the piece are more stretchy then the red because the red areas of the bustier have a black overlay of lace. The material is not sheer and does not become sheerer the more it is stretched.



I’ve taken a few measurements of the bustier laying flat, unstretched. If you need additional measurements, please let me know and I’ll get them for you.

Chest (armpit to armpit): 16 ½ inches
Cup length (taken at seam line): 6 inches
Cup width: 7 inches
Halter tie length: 23 ½ inches each
Width at bottom of bustier: 17 inches
Length (taken down side of bustier- armpit to bottom): 13 ¾ inches
Length down centre back of bustier: 12 ¼ inches
Length down centre front: 14 ½ inches

The measurements above were taken with the hook and eye closures done up on the first row of eyes (loosest fit) and the lacing on the sides tied tightly (no room for skin showing through).

There are 3 flexible plastic boning pieces in the bustier and all three run down the centre front of the piece. There are hook and eye closures down the centre back of the bustier. There are 2 rows of eyes, with 18 eyes in each row. The rows are ¾ of an inch from each other. The top of the bustier has halter style straps, which tie behind the wearer’s neck. The ties are quite lengthy (see measurements above) and they are also stretchy.

The bottom of the bustier has lacing down each side at the hip area. The lacing can be tightened or loosened depending on your preference. The length of the slit that laces up at the hip areas is 7 inches each. This area laces up with a long, thin black ribbon. When I had taken the measurements above with the lacing done up tightly, there was approximately 19 inches of ribbon at the bottom. All this means is that the ribbon is quite long and can be loosened a lot if you need the extra room. There are no loops to attach garter straps to.



The cups to the bustier are padded and have underwire. I wear a C cup and Coquette’s sizing chart states that the XL fits a C/D cup best. There was quite a bit of room in these cups while I was wearing it so I’d say that it probably would fit a D cup better.

To give you an idea of how stretchy the black material is- when I had the piece done up on the first row of eye closures to take measurements (loosest fit), I didn’t have to undo the closures to put the bustier on. I held the bustier above my head and slid it down my head and body. Alternatively, you could do the closures up at the front of your body and then turn the piece around so that the closures sit at the back. Ideally, you’ll have someone there to do the closures up for you but with the stretch, it’s not necessary.

The length of the front of the piece is excellent. It covers my belly nicely. The sides are a bit shorter, and the back is the shortest length of them all. The length shouldn’t be an issue if you’re wearing it in the bedroom or if you are okay with a bit of exposure in public but I prefer my chubbier hips and the small of my back to be covered up.

When I was wearing the piece, I noticed that the back of the bustier would slide up my body and give the back a crumpled look (I’m not sure if crumpled is the right word). Basically, the back would gather. I assume that this happens because there is no boning down the back. Below are a few photos of me wearing the piece. You can see in the third (last) photo that the back has started gathering (bunching up).



The bustier is comfortable to wear and I did not experience any skin irritation while wearing it. The only uncomfortable thing about the piece is that I have to keep pulling the back of the piece down when it starts to gather up. I’d be able to wear this piece for extended periods of time without any issues. The care tag states that the bustier should be hand washed only and hung to dry.

Overall, I think the corset is really beautiful and comfortable to wear. I had recently reviewed another wet look piece by Coquette that had the same red/black/lace scheme and this bustier is much more comfortable to wear. The red areas that have the lace overlay are not at areas where your arms would rub against. Also, the price difference is huge. This is a really inexpensive piece and doesn’t lack quality.

The only issue that I had, which I’ve deducted one star from the rating because, was the gathering at the back while I was wearing it. I think that even though I’m a solid XL, I probably should have went with the size large (if they had it available). Not only would the piece be tighter on me (so the back would be less likely to gather) but the cups would have fit me better. Even though it’s a bit larger, I’m still going to wear it often. It’s too pretty not to.
