Are you looking for a nice dress that has bling already added to it? Are you looking for a dress that has a bit of a sleeve, that covers the top part of your arms? Are you looking for a dress that can be worn for all types of occasions? Well, the New Amsterdam Mini Dress by Forplay is that and more! Since this dress has a slight arm, it is perfect for those who want to cover their shoulders. With the gorgeous necklace detail in the back, there's no need for added jewelry, it has it's own bling. Pair this with stockings, thigh-highs, bare legs, or wear it with leggings to make the dress a little more casual.





Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The New Amsterdam Mini Dress by Forplay, comes in sizes: extra small, small, medium, large, extra large, and is only available in the color grey. The dress contains three labels, two at the top on the back: the ForPlay logo tag, and a small black tag with sizing (XL). The third label is located on the side of the inside dress, sewn into the stitching, and it contains the fabric breakdown, as well as the washing instructions. The fabric breakdown is 92% polyester, and 8% spandex.



Starting from the top of the dress in the front, you will notice it has a bit of a cowl neck, where it drapes and falls nicely. The neck is round in nature, and doesn't include the necklace that is pictured in the original model photos.



The dress has a bit of a sleeve that covers the shoulders and top part of the arms. It's hard to view the sleeve by the photo, as the sleeve doesn't hang on the shoulders at the seam like a regular top. The top portion of the dress almost reminds me of a poncho. The way the top portion of the dress falls, is almost like an over-sized shirt (poncho), but tapers at the waist.



The back of the dress is quite open in nature, as it shows your back all the way down to the top of the skirt. With that said, you wouldn't be able to wear a normal bra with this, as it would be seen. You would have to wear a specialty bra that is strictly only on the cups, the kind that basically tapes your boobs! I have personally used duck tape in the past to hold up my breasts, for the times when I wasn't able to wear a bra.






The back drops down into a "V" shape plunge, and features a draped chain detail. There are four chains, each one a little bit longer then the other. The top chain measures 10.5" long, second chain 11.5" long, third chain 15.5" long, and the final chain is 19" long. The thickness of each chain is roughly 1/4", and is a silver antique color.





When it comes to the skirt portion, it is basically a skin-tight mini shirt. The stitching on the side of the dress gathers and ruffles the fabric, to cause a ruffle effect. The length of the dress from the neck to the bottom (front) is 34"(including cowl neck). With the dress on and the neck falling properly, the length in the front is 32" long.





The seams on the skirt portion measures 13" long, but can be stretched to make the skirt a bit longer.

This dress looks better on the model that is wearing it. I do love the color, and the top portion, but I hate the fact that the skirt is so fitted. With the grey shade and the fit of the skirt, it shows all my flaws in my lower stomach region. I personally would love to alter the dress and have it shortened, so that it is more of a long top then a dress. Maybe I'd also add a black belt at the waist, to help make my waist look smaller. Wearing this with jeans, isn't a good idea, as you can see that the belt loops show.

Another thing that I dislike, is that I can't wear a bra with it. This would make for an excellent club dress or top, if only I didn't have to worry about a bra. My boobs would sag too much, to go without. With that said, this dress is best suited for someone with a smaller bust, and a small frame. Maybe it is best that I give this away to someone who can wear it and look good!

I will include some personal photos, for you to get a better look at how it fit. I normally wear a size 14, and I purchased the XL. Some of the pictures might be blurry... sorry about that, as I was the one taking them with my phone!











Care and Maintenance

This item you will want to wash by hand in cool water, and use a detergent that is mild. I personally like to use zero for my lingerie. You will also want this item to air dry, hang it on a hanger to keep it's shape.

Packaging

When it comes to the packaging of this dress, it reminds me of picking up an item from the dry cleaners. Why you may ask? Because it comes on a white plastic hanger, and has a clear plastic garment bag hanging to protect it. The only difference with this, is that the clear plastic bag has the Forplay logo written on it, and a hazard warning for children. The bag wasn't sealed, but it did protect the dress, and is perfect for storing and hanging it in your closet.

The hanger is just a cheap plastic hanger, however, it does it's job well enough. The original cardboard tag comes attached to the Forplay label, and has a model on the front that is modelling a different garment. It says on the front "Born in Hollywood", which seems to be their slogan. On the back of the cardboard tag, it's white in color with the Forplay logo, and the sizing listed.

Even though the skirt portion to this dress is a little snug, it should look better over time as I'm losing weight. I have layered this with a black camisole and was able to wear a bra with no problem, as it was hidden. I also have tried wearing this dress backwards, as the chains end up looking like a funky necklace.

I didn't hem this item like I was originally thinking of, I just ended up pinning it up to wear as a long 80's style shirt. I prefer to wear this with grey pinstripe dress pants, with a black camisole, pinned to look like a long top, and heels. I have received a few compliments, so this item was well worth the price.
