Pretty but the Metal Zipper Trim Gets Bothersome

I love the ruffle dress by DreamGirl, but when I had worn the dress with knee-highs, the zipper trim on the ruffles rubbed against my bare skin and became irritable. This was really the only problem that I had with the dress. Other then the trim, the dress is comfortable, stretchy and oh so pretty!

The ruffle dress and thong by DreamGirl arrived rolled up beneath hot pink tissue paper. There was no other packaging other than the hot pink tissue paper. I ordered the dress in size large, but it is also available in size small and medium. Typically I would order a size XL because that is the size I normally wear, but I wanted this dress so badly so I figured I could squeeze myself into it.

When I first received the dress and looked at it, I thought that I could never squeeze into it. It appeared very small, but luckily the material is very stretchy! The dress is made of 92% polyester and 8% spandex. Both the dress and the ruffled skirt area are very, very stretchy. I’ve taken measurements of the dress, lying flat, unstretched. If you need additional measurements, do not hesitate to send me a message!

Chest width (armpit to armpit): 15 ½ inches
Waist width (above ruffles): 16 ½ inches
Ruffle length: approximately 9 inches (there are areas of the ruffles that are shorter, and some are longer so it depends on where you are measuring from)
Dress length (from top of chest to bottom of ruffle): 23 ½ inches
Top of dress length (from chest to top of ruffle): 14 ¾ inches
Neck strap width: 1 inch
Neck strap length: 29 inches each

The dress (excluding the ruffled bottom), has 8 rows of fabric running down it. They remind me of corset boning covers, though these rows do not have boning beneath them. There are four rows down the front, 1 down each side, and 2 in the back. There are two boning pieces that run down the front, centre of the dress; 1 on each side of the hook and eye closure area. These boning pieces are plastic and are very flexible. Below you can see the rows of fabric, as well as the hook and eye closures.

There are 17 hook and eye closures down the centre front of the dress. I found that when I had worn the dress, a few of the hooks came undone when I would move around or sit down (any movement that could cause them to loosen). The hook and eye closures end where the ruffled bottom part begins, so the dress cannot actually be completely undone down the front.

Neck straps hold up the top area of the dress that you tie together behind your neck. The dress material (excluding the ruffled bottom) is quite thin, and the more it stretches on your body, the more sheer it becomes. When I had worn the dress without a bra, my chest outline could be seen through the material. Also, because it is a thin material, regardless of how stretched it is, your nipples may be seen through it. To avoid this problem, you could just wear a strapless bra with it. There is no padding, and no underwire in the chest.

Depending on wear the dress falls on your body, you may be able to see the outline of your underwear as well. The dress does come with a basic, black thong, but if you wear this as a dress out in public, it really doesn’t matter what underwear you wear with it. Also, because it is a basic thong, you could probably match the dress with a prettier pair of black undergarments anyway.

When I had worn the dress, I had worn knee high stockings with it. I noticed that after about a half an hour, the upper areas of the back of my legs were starting to become irritated. The ruffles on the bottom of the dress have zipper trim and the metal zipper trim had rubbed against the back of my bare legs. If you were to wear a pair of pantyhose, the zipper trim could catch on the nylon, and end up ruining the pantyhose. The only thing I could think of that could possibly avoid the zipper irritation on the back of your legs is to wear leggings with the dress… or, you could wear it for short periods of time only. Maybe this won’t be a problem for you, but it for me it was, especially when sitting down.

Experience
Even though the ruffled bottom became a bit irritating, I still love the dress. My partner really loved it on me, and I felt cute in it. The material was really comfortable (other then the zipper trim), and it has so much stretch in it that I was able to breath in the size large, even though I regularly wear a size XL. I’ve decided to give the dress a 4 out of 5. It lost a star because it is not available in plus sizes, and because the zipper trim is bothersome on the back of my legs.

The care tag states the dress should be dry cleaned only. Below is a photo of me wearing the dress. The first photo is a front view, second is the back, third is a side view, and fourth is how I’d wear the outfit in public.

This looks great on you. I wish this piece came in larger sizes, I've been hoping they might get larger sizes of it for a while now. Hadn't realized the trim was zippered though, very cute - but I can see how that would be bothersome against bare skin.

I know! I really hope they add the sizes!

Like XY, I'm shocked to read that you usually wear an XL. You look so tiny!

I think I may give this a shot, but I think the large will be snug on me (though I can usually fit into dreamgirl's larges) ..my hips and behind are where I carry my weight though, so I worry about if it would stretch enough to accommodate them.
