Style

The body of this corset is made of two layers of fabric. On the inside is an opaque light beige fabric that has a black lace overlay on top. This fabric goes all the way around the torso, so there's no plain black panel at the back. Hooray! The torso is fitted with 11 lengths of plastic boning. The boning is covered in black velvet on the outside and black polyester on the inside. This gives the whole piece a stripey sort of look. The boning does not extend over the cups. Those are made of soft padding. They will provide a little support to larger breasts but not a ton. Adorning the top of the breasts is a 2-1/2" wide band of black ruffles. You can see through the ruffle fabric. It looks like a very fine fishnet pattern. A similar band of ruffles also lines the entire bottom edge of the corset. There are two black bows punctuating the bottom edge as well. These are attached with brooch fasteners and are totally removable.

The corset closes at the back via a long line of bra strap closures. There are two sizing options for this closure that are 1/2" apart. When you receive this corset it comes on one of Coquette's lovely black padded hangers. There is a tag attached with a picture of the garment being modeled along with detachable shoulder and garter straps. There are little loops inside the garment where they can be fastened. It's possible to attach just one of the shoulder straps in a halter style though I do not think they were meant for this. One issue that I've found with detachable garter straps is that they can come undone if you're actively moving while wearing them. Now I don't know what kind of movement that would be wearing this sexy corset...

Size and Fit

One of the great things about this corset is that it does come in a wide range of sizes. Also the fabric that it's made of has some stretch so it's a very accommodating garment. I also noticed that the ruffles on the beasts can disguise a not-so-perfect fit. I ordered a corset that was on the larger end of my measurements, especially in the bust, and it's not so obvious because of all those ruffles.

I did find this garment true to size. I have larger hips and a smaller bust and ordered based more on my hip and waist measurements. I find the fit pretty good if a little large. I actually remeasured myself just now and found out that I've lost an inch here and there. Please let that be a reminder to you to check your own measurements! Ladies especially tend to wax and wane over time.

Materials and Care Information

This corset is made of 100% polyester which is a synthetic fiber. Polyester is cost-efficient, strong and holds its colour well, but it tends to pick up smells and it doesn't feel super luxurious against the skin. It also makes me think of petroleum but let's not go there.

To care for this garment, you can spot clean or go for hand washing. Lingerie can be washed with a mild detergent suitable for laundering baby clothes, with detergent specifically made for lingerie and delicates, or with shampoo. Warm or cold water can be used, though using cold water shocks any elastic back into its original position. Fill a sink with soap and water and soak the garment for about five minutes. Gently agitate then spot clean any trouble spots and rinse twice with clean water. Do not wring the garment, but squeeze without twisting or roll it up inside a towel and compress. Hang or lay flat to dry.

Well, I had a wonderful experience with my High-waisted Garter Belt that is from the same line as the Black and Nude Corset. So you could say my expectations were high. I'm glad that this corset fit fine, but style-wise I am not super excited about it. I find that the bands of ruffles are too thick and the materials they are made of does not feel super luxurious. Also there are so many black stripes going this way and that over the garment that it looks too busy for my taste. Truth be told I am coming to realize that I have pretty specific taste when it comes to corsets and I think my taste is getting really fancy. I think that I would rather save my pennies up and get a custom made corset built for me by an artisan crafts person. That is, if I ever come to the point where I really want one that bad. So, this corset is getting a solid "meh" with a shoulder shrug from my corner.

Overall I'm giving it 3 stars because it is well constructed and could suit lots of people, just not me so much.

I've gotten very little wear out of this corset. I don't feel sexy when I put it on and it's not for me, unfortunately.
