Use

The Getaway Pure vibrator (hereafter referred to as “Pure”) is made by Nomi Tang, who introduced the Better Than Chocolate vibe back in June 2009. Pure is part of the Getaway series of vibrators, which includes the Luxe and the Wild. These waterproof, silicone vibrators feature a touch sensor control on the base. Of the three Getaway vibes, Pure's shaft is the smallest and least contoured.

Pure is designed to be used both internally and externally. The shaft functions as a dildo and is anal safe as long as the base is attached. When vibrations are on, the entire length of Pure vibrates. The two areas where vibrations are concentrated are the end of the shaft and the rounded point on the underside of the base. The shaft can be used internally or externally, but the rounded point on the base is best suited for external use.

Pure twists apart to allow you to insert two AA batteries into the shaft. Securely reattaching the base ensures that Pure will be waterproof up to one meter. Press the power button located between the touch sensor and the shaft, and then use the touch sensor to select vibration strength and pattern.

Material / Texture

Silicone covers nearly all of Pure; only the touch sensor is hard plastic. The silicone is matte and velvety, but also quite firm. Pure is a rigid toy from base to tip. The underside of the shaft has a very slight amount of give, but overall the toy is firm and inflexible. A seam runs along the sides of the shaft, but should not be noticeable during use.

Design / Shape / Size

Pure's shaft is smooth and rounded at the end. It is narrowest at its middle (1” diam.) and gently increases in width to about 1 1/4” near its end. The shaft has a slight curve, allowing for thrusting and light g-spot stimulation. The base is about 2 3/4” wide, but the shape may not be ideal for all users' hands. Holding the base while using the shaft end can be tricky because the touch sensor is fairly large and located between the base's wings. Locking the vibrator during use should decrease unwanted changes in pattern or power (see next section).

You can also hold the shaft and use the base as a vibrator. The base features a rounded point that can provide more pinpoint pressure and vibration. Its placement near the edge can cause the edge of the silicone to catch on the skin or genitals during use, especially if the area is not well lubricated. The base's wings can also be used to stimulate a wider area such as the labia.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Pure has a dedicated on/off button and a touch sensor control on its base. When you turn Pure on, it's initially at maximum power on its steady vibration mode. The NT logo on the touch sensor lights up bright blue. To lower the power, slide your finger down over the touch sensor. To increase power, slide your finger up. To change modes, place your finger on the Nomi Tang “NT” logo on the touch sensor for two seconds. The mode order starts with steady, then goes to a ramp, then to a pulse, and back to steady, etc. On the ramp and pulse modes, sliding your finger up or down the touch sensor will change the frequency of the pattern, but not its power level. The NT logo lights up to help you know which pattern you're on: Steady mode – continuously on; Ramp – glows brightly then fades; Pulse – flashes on and off.

The three vibration modes operate independently of one another, and you can adjust all three to the power/frequency that you prefer. When you first change from steady vibrations to the ramp function, the ramp begins at medium frequency. Regardless of your choice of ramp frequency, the pulse mode begins at medium frequency. When you return to steady vibrations, Pure vibrates at your last selected power level. The same is true for your selected frequencies for the ramp and pulse modes. This memory feature allows you to build your own combinations of modes and cycle through them as you wish.

While using Pure, you can lock the vibrations anytime by placing your finger on the white end of the touch sensor for two seconds. The NT logo will turn red, and touching the NT logo or sliding your finger on the sensor will not change the vibrations. To unlock, place your finger on the white end again; the NT logo will return to blue.

When Pure's touch sensor gets wet, it locks itself and cannot be adjusted until the sensor is dry. When Pure locks itself, the NT logo turns pinkish purple. To adjust Pure's vibrations, dry off the touch sensor and wait for the NT logo to turn blue again. If you experience problems, turn Pure off and wipe it dry before turning it on again.

Pure's vibrations are fairly strong, and are deep and rumbly even at lower power settings. Users who are sensitive to buzzy vibrations should not be irritated by Pure. The shaft provides a large area for vibration, while the rounded point on the base is designed for pinpoint stimulation. The shaft vibrations are noticeably stronger than those in the base. Regardless of which end you're using, the entire toy vibrates, leaving no vibration-free handle to hold during use.

Pure's rigid shaft allows for easily directed pleasure, and its rounded end should play nicely near the cervix. For external use, the unyielding design allows for as much pressure as a user desires without compromising vibration strength.

Care and Maintenance

Use only water-based lubes with Pure, as silicone-based ones can harm its surface. Always make sure the base is securely attached before play. If you wash Pure before using it, wipe the touch sensor dry before use.

To clean Pure, first make sure the base is securely in place, and then wash wish soap and warm water. You may also use toy cleaner or wipes. To disinfect Pure when using between orifices or partners, wipe with a 10% bleach solution and then rinse clean.

Packaging

Pure's packaging is attractive, informative, and reusable. The vibrator comes in a thick white cardboard case, which has a sleek cardboard sleeve around it. The sleeve shows pictures of the vibe, some basic product specs, and Nomi Tang's logo. The cardboard case is very discreet, featuring the Nomi Tang logo without any words or pictures. Open the case, and Pure sits inside on a bed of satin. Under the vibe is a satin pouch for an additional storage option. Tucked into the edge of the satin bed is a long, narrow instruction booklet.

Personal comments

Pure's vibrations speak to my clit in the same way the Better Than Chocolate's vibes do. I can't help but love this toy's vibrations. I mostly use this toy externally, but the vibes feel quite nice inside me as well, and I'm not often a fan of internal vibration. As much as I love the vibrations, Pure has a couple of design flaws I can't ignore. First, and most frustrating, is that the entire toy vibrates. Pure has two separate areas of concentrated vibration, and they can't be used simultaneously by one person. A toggle function would greatly improve this toy. My hands get tingly and tired more easily when I have to hold a vibrating handle. Second, while the winged base design is reminiscent of the Better Than Chocolate, I find this base much harder to hold. The narrow wings feel awkward instead of ergonomic, especially when I'm trying to avoid the vibrating nub and the touch sensor. I usually resort to holding Pure's shaft near the base joint. Despite these complaints, my overall impression of Pure is positive, and it rivals the Better Than Chocolate as my favorite clitoral vibrator.
