Critical/ academic writing about BDSM/ kink communities

Contributor: fizzygato fizzygato
So I'm into a lot of critical queer writing sort things.

I feel like I haven't encountered much, though, that discusses the topics of BDSM/ kink. I was wondering if any of you knew of any good critical/ academic authors who write such? (Or other forms of media that present such?)

I was wondering if such a genre even exists/ if anyone knows of communities that are attempting to re-conceptualize BDSM/ kink as a whole, because I feel like a lot of normativity is present in the communities I'm involved in. (I guess I am wondering if there is a such thing as radical BDSM/ kink, like there is of radical trans*/ queer?)

If there's not, someone should get to it!
No, seriously, if I'm reading your question right, you're pointing out that a lot of what you see in the BDSM community is highly normative and the people involved often don't turn a critical eye to it.
I get that, and it's something that can get on my nerves.

This book sounds like it's along those lines link
but I haven't read it, so I can't say much about it, other than it's the only one I know of that's written by a sociologist.

On the other hand, this blogger leaps to mind when you talk about re-conceptualizing :

I wouldn't really call him an academic, and lots of people hate him (some of the entries get pretty angry, and he's done some things that don't sit well with everyone, to say the least), but I have enjoyed a lot of his writing, and found myself agreeing with some of the issues he points out around the mainstream BDSM culture.

I'd like more book recommendations, myself, since I tend to read a lot.

Thanks for the links

I'll definitely check out the blog, but I'm not sure about the book. I'm on a bit of a budget.

I guess I also don't mean that it has to be academic, but anything that's critical
