pokey things!

I love Kal Cobalt's Kink Corners. They're always five points about something fun. This week, though, got me wondering how many of us actually do knife play. Is it as "edgy" as some think it is? Do you do it as Kal describes in the article? Or are you a bit more risky?

Do you play with pokey things?

I do indeed. I use them for the "awe" factor, to sometimes cut my partners, or simply run it along their skin. I did it with my little girl once and she went nuts, thinking that I was going to do something that would hurt her "too much," because I generally get "overly" excited whenever I use any sort of blades.

I do not believe that it's edgy, if done correctly. With the submissives I've had (other than one), I never raised a blade to their neck because they've always gone crazy when I've even pressed sharp things against their stomach, back or legs. I was too worried that they would get afraid and make me do something I REALLY would not want to do.

I can sometimes be risky, but I'm generally not as I prefer to know what I'm doing before screwing up royally.

I have over 12 bladed weapons in my room because I love to collect them. However I wouldn't ever mix sex with blades, I've had my fair share of nonsexual accidents involving blades, one being when I was about 2 or 3. My mom left a razor blade out and I cut my finger open and needed stitches. I lost a lot of blood and had to be rushed to the ER, and I believe I had passed out, too.

It's a good idea to make sure the person really knows how to properly use a knife. One time the person didn't use it right...my partner and I were left with some very very LONG and shallow cuts...not cool.

I've not done knife play but it does interest me.. not because it's edgy (how punny) but just because I like bladed stuff.

True, true. Always have to make sure all parties are out for the same results, too. When my partner and I play, we often intend to cut and even do decorative cuttings so, for us, cuts are good. But NOT if it's not what you were aiming for when the play started.

I do knife play, but I rarely cut. (I'm not counting the time that I cut my submissive on purpose because he dared me that it wouldn't.) I mostly use it for fear. It can bring your scenes to a whole new level of excitement once you introduce the adrenaline of fear into the equation.

Our local kink group doesn't consider it edge play unless being done along the neck or some other vital areas. A lot of people I know enough feeling the blade just along their skin. (Vampire gloves really are a great asset for people like that.)

i have done knifeplay numerous times, and moreso with my current Master than anyone else i've scened with. i really love it. i don't find it painful, or even "pokey." One of my Mentors describes knives as "scratchy" toys and i would agree with that.

We have also done some swordplay, but most of the "swords" that my Master owns are wooden-style. Really good for impact play, not so good for blade play. However, i have done sword-blade play in the past. It is generally good for show, but not necessarily as functional as small blade play. It has a different purpose.

i don't know if i would make a specific point regarding temperature play and knives. i suppose that it is a good point, but you have to be really careful about heating any form of metal. Knives are cold, generally, unless you warm them up first.

i have had knives pressed to my neck and on various other areas. i find the threatening rush more exciting than the lines left by the blade, although they can leave some pretty patterns.

I definitely agree with that. Not good if it's not what was intended!

I have not tried knife play. But I'm very clumsy, and have had some accidents with knives before. So I don't see it in my future.

I adore the hell out of my pinwheel. It feels a lot like a knife or scalpel and is just as scary looking, but a lot harder to break any skin with.

I have done some pretty intense knife play in the past.

With proper precautions, knife (and other sharps) play is one of my favorite things to bottom for.
