What are the most important features of a strap on harness?

Contributor: penumbra penumbra
My current harness is leaving me wanting for something better. What features of a strap-on harness are vital for you? What adds comfort and usability? Are there things that make extra costs worthwhile? Features that you thought you would like but weren't as useful as you hoped?

In particular, I would like a harness that makes vaginal and anal penetration comfortable for both parties!

The most important thing when looking for harnesses for me was comfort. Which led me to care more about material and how easily it could be adjusted.

Stability, comfort, durability, adjustibility. Get all of these and you will have a great, stimulating, long-lasting, easy to use harness.

Adjustibility and stability: look for a harness that has many adjustments, but also comes with latches that allow you to adjust them once and leave them adjusted. It's no fun spending 15+ minutes adjusting everything every single time. Also lookj for secure attachments between the straps and a sturdy, wide design so things aren't pulling/twisting on one small section. Get one with replaceable O-rings and a removable pad (if it has a pad) to accomodate a wide variety of toys. Get one that can be adjusted to ride low or high depending on your preference.

Comfort: Soft is good. Make sure there aren't any hard, poking, sharp edges.

Durability: Good quality leather, nylon, vinyl, or vegan leather. You'll be spending a lot for a good harness, so you might as well get one that will last.

Don't mess with "Vac-U-Lock" or the like - go straight to a good O-ring harness for flexibility.

I have a comfy/adjustable cheaper o-ring harness, and the reason I'm looking at higher-end ones is because I think they'd hold things/stay in place better.

Agree on all of the above points. I'd also say something that holds dildos well because some will cause a pull away which makes them hard to use. It's hard to tell from looking at them. You'd have to read through the reviews.

Something no one has mentioned but that is a big factor for me is appearance. I like my harness to look sexy. I have a Joque harness that is comfortable and holds things wonderfully. It's not very sexy looking though so it's not my favorite despite how well it works just because of that. It also doesn't hold dildos above about 1.75" which is a pain.
