I still feel like big brother big sister is so close to the mentoring program its redundant a bit. I think a mentor can go outside of just reviews and offer up other advice.

Oh what great work we can get done. Thanks for the summery Sam.

The "Tutorials: The master list" should be a great help for sure.

I hope it is! I have about 5 more that are already done and waiting to be posted, but I'm always open to ideas for new tutorials.

dang, thats alot..

so. my opinions

big brother/sister program sounds like a marvelous idea. i'd volunteer to be a big sister if the program is ever implemented. it could be something like the mentor program... folks sign up to have a big bro/sis and they could be pals until the end of time or eden, whichever comes first.

Eden merch i was really disappionted that the cock ring was disposable. thats so wasteful! i'd like to see more eden products, but something a little more sustainable. also, the wipes are amazing, but the cover plastered with the words 'sex shop' make them not as friendly to keep out on the back of the toilet (where i like to use them alot) in case company comes.

newsletter personally i'm not sure we need a CPM newsletter. but it could be useful.

public calendar. the forum page is helping out alot on that anymore. the banner at the top with rotating events is awesome, as well as the upcoming events slots and new sticky threads. those are super helpful. i'm not sure we need a calendar either, but it could be helpful.

removing points on voting in polls ... fine by me! makes for a more honest response.

the stickied threads and tutorial posts are fucking awesome.

This is an awesome list of stuff! Good job, and I'm excited to see new progress in lots of areas.

I feel as though ideas that we haven't done much with could spark a lot of conversation, so I'm going to save those for last. Let's take a look now at clubs!

Clubs suggested:
-Time zone issues have been brought up time and time again. A suggestion of making the meetings later in the evening, up to 11pm Eastern has been brought up, but there wasn't a big enough call for it that anything was done. Changing the time of meetings is a possibility if enough people call for it.

Clubs we've implemented:
-Community Gives Back. This started with the holiday families and became Eden Gives Back. Participation in Eden Gives Back has dropped, and EGB has moved back to the Community Planning Meetings.
-An erotica writing club was brought up. This wavered back and forth between people wanting to read/write erotica and people who wanted to read/write non-erotic things. Eventually this turned into Eden Lit.
-Birthday club was suggested at meeting 6. In January of 2011 we started having monthly threads announcing members birthdays.
-Holiday parties were brought up. We planned the first holiday party in this meeting, and then later on formed the Holiday Party Committee. Committee was dropped from that title and now we have Holiday Party Planning meetings.
-Contributor of the Month was brought up at the second meeting. It was put into place shortly after that, and by meeting 8 was open to everybody to nominate, not just members of the 'committee.'
-Blogger club was announced. While not an initial idea of the CPM, this meeting did help give that club ideas for improvement.
-A cooking club was suggested. A lot of potential was brought up with this club, and it sat around a while as an idea before becoming a fully formed club.
-Sewing club, or something similar. This was brought up around meeting 9. A general art club was also brought up, featuring all mediums except photography since we already had started a photography club. At this point the closest thing we have is our Eden Arts and Crafts club. This can cover art in general, but also crafty things like sewing or knitting.
-Photography club was brought up by Gary and I in one of these meetings. Gary started a thread to check for interest, and shortly thereafter the Eden Photographers club was born.
-Movie club. While initially meant to be something where people could get together and animate small movies, we eventually developed a different movie based club; Eden Flicks.
-Not a club, but the idea of adding clips of people reading from book club selections was something that was brought up here and was also done for Naked Reader. You'll need to email Laurel (laurelb@ edenfantasys.com) to figure out if you can add one to a Naked Reader book's page.

Clubs that have only been brought up:
-Music club. It wouldn't have to be like the clubs we have now, but at least a thread here and there for the musicians of the site to get together, try stuff out on each other, and talk about music in general. It was brought up a few more times, but never went anywhere.
-The idea of having a non-erotic book club was suggested. Somebody stepped up to show some interest in managing the club, but it hasn't gone anywhere.
-An anime/otaku club. It could be culture, cosplay, or hentai. This only got brought up once and hasn't gone anywhere.

Whew! That's a lot of accomplishments, especially when you consider it was community driven.

I think the newsletter would be to draw in awareness and try to get people more proactive in how eden works.

But there are members of the site (forums, or just shoppers) who aren't interested in being reviewers, and they might enjoy being shown around too.

Mu original concept of the BB/BS program was that it was not necessarily related to reviews since not all contributors write reviews. Also, it would be offered as soon as someone created a profile. Right now, most newcomers don't know about the mentor program let alone how to sign up for one. This program would be immediately offered to everyone as a personal resource to navigate the site and community.

If meetings were wanting to be held at later times... I could see having, you know, like typical clubs have regional sections with their own convenient meeting places, so if somebody in the UK wanted to host an occasional "Eden Cooks at 2am EST," that would be totally awesome!

But personally, I couldn't promise to host meetings at 11pm EST. Shortly here I'll be on a first shift job again instead of contract work from home, and, um, I'm'a need to sleep.

Now for contests/games!

Contests/games suggested:

Contests/games that have been done:
-The Halloween contest was discussed at the very first meeting. This is something that could easily be done each year.
-Design contests. The initial idea was brought up by Viktor who had an example of challenging the community to come up with an Eden sports jersey, not necessarily for sale but for fun. So far we've done the T-shirt designs that the community has designed.
-Live community games involving quizzes, photo hunts, etc. The closest we've come to these is during the parties and some club meetings, where trivia is given and then asked about later on.
-Some kind of bingo. People could be given a number with each order or even if you participate in one of the clubs or meetings. We could make up a bingo card and the first one to get a bingo would win a prize or GC. Emma has done this for Porn Club

Contests/games that never went anywhere:
-Sex toy trivia contests. The closest we've got to this right now is the Name that Toy contest in the Weekly Roundup.
-A 20 questions game was brought up. Similar to the guess the number contests, there wasn't a great time to try them.
-A monthly question where we ask something safety related and you answer. Prizes were a possibility but it was mostly going to be for fun. Kayla has her weekly Sex Facts now that while not the same idea, do promote safety information.
-Guess the number contests. Idea was brought up but not taken any further because there didn't seem to be a “best” time to do it.
-Carving genitalia out of canned ham, or creating them with any other medium.

I love clubs but I think there should be some caution of everyone in the world wanting to start one for their particular interest and it becoming overwhelming. I like alices toy swap thing though, I think it has a lot of potential.

well-said kindred. and much needed! i, like many reviewers, signed up to be advanced before even learning about the mentor program. this site is a bit hard to navigate (to be kind!) and a friend to help out from the beginning would be so helpful. and really knit the community together as well.

Personally, I think politics are too dangerous of a subject. Any discussion usually ends up with hurt feelings.

I have a feeling that a politics club would very much walk a fine line. Not that I think there's anything wrong with it, but I think it might turn into a little powder keg unintentionally. However these are just my feelings. If it's something you would really like to do, email me about it and I can bring it up with Gary and the rest of the team for feedback.
