I agree with this. When you look at things from someone elses point of view then things really start to look diffrent to you.

Hey. I am here, sort of. I read the two other stories. I liked them both. Scarlet's story followed the classic ugly duckling, growing into your true self story somewhat and I liked that.

Thank you my own is Fox as well so I think I was doing my best to capture that. Plus it was interesting writing from an Omega point of view.

Shall we launch into our discussion about what we'd like to change, keep or discard? We can throw some ideas around and people can just jump on in with their ideas and suggestions.

This Month has been a hot one for most of us and we've all been super busy. Still we do have a couple of stories to critique:

I like reading others' pieces but I don't feel qualified to write them!

I like the idea of having someplace to put our writing and get help even when it is not done yet. Kind of in draft form and ask others to read and let us know if it is good or could be changed to be better and such.

I felt that way too but sometimes it is easy to just let it flow when it is on something you know. Give it a try sometime and see what happens.

Some suggestions so far:

The idea is to devote some time nonfiction pieces, specifically commentary, much like the type found in Sexis and Eden Café. While the purpose wouldn’t be to write specifically for Sexis or EC, it would certainly be a thought and would hopefully result in even better writers and pieces.
The idea would be for people to bounce ideas and pieces off of one another for feedback and suggestions.
I often see threads where people state that they’re thinking about writing for Sexis, EC or somewhere else, but aren’t sure if they’re good enough. The heart of this idea would be for writers of all skill sets to help one another improve and grow their style.

What about having a discussion prompt suggested about a week or two before the meeting? Perhaps one for fiction and one for nonfiction.

Is it possible to submit parts of stories? If so, do I still own the rights?

Yes! You don't know until you try. I thought I couldn't do it for the longest time.

So what do we think about making more of a focus on non-fiction pieces? Perhaps allowing people to submit works in progress for some feedback?

Also EF never owns the rights to anything we publish here even if we put it in a book. You might have to worry about outright theft but never about custodial interference.

Non-fiction is a good place for some people to start, like me, with it being on something you know well. Makes it a lot easier to write that way I think.

What would make you feel more welcome and capable? I've read your reviews you are more than capable of writing...

I like the idea of working on a little non-fiction as well.

I am okay with the commentary pieces, but have not done them and may not. I like the lit aspects and usimg the prompts for stories. Often the prompts for the Sexia abd other publicatiins just are alignes too mich eith the female perspective and topics of interest for me to be inspired to write, but that is just me.

To be honest this was never meant to be an erotica writing club. I have had holy hell getting that across to people! Erotica is easy and fun to write but it's NOT and never has been our focus. I would LOVE to see more serious writing and even some deeper erotica like Cedar wrote for us this month.

Anyone read book to improve writing? I've skimmed through STephen King's "On Writing"

We choose the themes for the next month at each meeting. This is how we've always done it but I am not adverse to suggestions...

Well then we don't want to alienate our male writers...so we know to keep our focus more general. What topics would YOU like to delve into that haven't been suggested?

I also publish a meeting recap, touching on what we discussed and changes we've made as well as posting the topics we've chosen after each meeting.
It's on a different thread so it's easy for those who just want to know what happened and what the topics are.

i was just wondering because several people are talking about stories they read for the meeting, I'm just wondering where they found said stories.

I have read Mr. King's book as well as several others and taken creative writing for publication courses in College. I wouldn't mind actually seeing if we could invite some guest speakers on the subject...we actually have several published writers in our club who could speak about the process.

Ah in the announcement for the meeting (page 1 very top of this forum thread) I post a list of the works written for the Month. Right now we have a very confusing system of where and how to post the work. We are working on getting the forums rearranged so that they are more intuitive and easier to navigate.

You know, I had to open my big mouth. I honestly don't know. Some of the ones that Stormy had the last couple months were okay, but I just didn't get the itch, you lnow. Unlike the Aesop where I had a story and my muse kept scratching until I got it down.
