Keep trying. If there is a brewpub near you, try one of theirs. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have a couple wheat beers that they make that are not too bad - certainly better than anything the macrobreweries make.

I'll assume you've finished now. And to those of you still toweling off your mess, I apologize. So, what you should see now is a beer with about a ½ to 1 inch (1-2.5 cm) of head on it. Getting head is a good thing people. I myself have gotten awfully good at giving head. In fact, my friends are always spurting off about how good of head I give them. With enough practice, any of you can give as good as of head as I do, and that's truly something to which to aspire.

The head on your beer improves the aroma and taste of your beer. So lean over and stick your nose close to the head and breathe it in. Make sure not to get any of it on your nose. I guess some people like getting that white stuff on their face after they've given head, but I find it rather messy, myself. I'd rather just swallow it.

But don't swallow it just yet! This beer isn't for drinking - not yet anyway.

I worked in a microbrewery, I have also learned "proper head technique"

Two major components of fully enjoying a beer are its appearance and its aroma - neither of these can be appreciated inside a can or bottle. Drinking from a container is fine if you don't care about what you're drinking!

Not many of my old friends knew how to pour, they also never enjoyed the smell of a good beer. One of my best friends has been brewing for about 25 years, he taught me well.

Alright, BBWTT. You win.

Sigh. As some of you may be aware, I have developed some really deep feelings for someone on EdenFantasys. Suffice it to say, the tension and stress of it (in light of the fact that I’m married) has been doing quite a number on my mental and physical health. BBWTT has been urging me to come clean about it to get some of the stress off my shoulders. You know what? She’s absolutely right (thanx BBWTT). Trying to manage all this simply isn’t working.

That said, I’ve been giving this some thought, and I just can’t do it without trying to milk it of every benefit it might have. So, here’s what I’m going to do. I have a review that I’m need to submit in the next day or two, and I’ll reveal who it is in there. I figure I’d might as well harness my inner pimp and get some traffic on my review while I’m at it.

Now, back to the beer.

OK, to get back on track here...

The first thing we need to do before you can drink it is to identify what kind of beer it is. For the purposes of this workshop, I'll assume you just got this beer out of the fridge, which is usually set at 35-38º F (1-3º C). So, what kind of beer do you have? Some of you may have had a beer from one of the major American or Canadian brewers (Budweiser, Coors, Molson, Miller, etc.). If this is the case, you can begin drinking your beers in about 5 minutes. For the rest of you, we need to figure out what it is you are drinking. If the label on your beer says the word "Lager" on it anywhere, you can drink your beer in 5 minutes as well. For those of you with a beer label that says "Ale" on it anywhere, you will need to wait a full 30 minutes before drinking your beer. If your beer label says neither of these things, tell me what your beer is and I'll help you figure out whether it is a lager or an ale.

Alcohol dehydrates, so all I'm doing is delaying your dehydration. Anyway, who knows, when you drink your beer at its proper temperatuer, you may actually think it tastes ok. Of course, if it is six months old, perhaps not (most beer should be stored a maximum of 4 months, btw)
