Making a Living the buzzy way.

I've always wondered how exactly one can get into and make a living designing, making, and selling sex toys. There seem to be a lot of manufacturers of the same sort of toys so there's clearly money in it. How do you break into the business?

I've recently gotten the Mr. Softee dildo for my wife and will have a Softee Ballsy Cock for myself soon, and I'm a little confused on the materials..

Doc Johnson's Black Roses, yay or nay?

I imagine there is a lot involved- finding a manufacturer in China, safe and long-lasting design, coming up with a unique twist so you can market it to stores.

I think if you are really interested, the best way to start is working with an established business. You can learn the ropes while brainstorming ideas.

For Doc Johnson, I should tell you - we manufacture the majority of our products in America.. hand made right here in the USA, baby! So, for us, it was about figuring out HOW to make the products we were envisioning, from molding to machinery, to packaging.. and having the last 35 years to grow and learn has been amazing. It's certainly not an overnight business venture if you're going to actually manufacture product. Lots of time, and lots of money, and lots of people go into making these toys -- Doc Johnson employs 500 people in North Hollywood and our space is about 250,000 square feet.. it's a huge operation!

You can always try to work with an existing company on developing new product - most major manufacturers have a Product Development Team in-house.

I hope that helps!
