When you click on someones picture it should take you to their profile...to the right of their name it should say follow, click that and you choose your relationship, etc. Then hit enter, and you will be following that person. When you follow someone all their recent activity will show up on your wall.

Just to clarify:
You do not add followers to your own page, you can only follow other people. If people take interest in you, they will follow you (become a follower). You do not put their names on your page yourself.
