#EdenUpdate - Forum Update - Suggestions Needed

Contributor: Petite Valentine Petite Valentine
I'm going to echo cherryredhead88 - vBulletin style forums are much easier to navigate. The EF forums are not really intuitive.

Also, what's the point of a private poll if the response gets splashed on your wall anyway?

Private poll answers shouldn't be posting on your wall.... I've only seen answers for public polls on my/others' walls

"I've always been a fan of closing voting when a poll gets too old (3-6 months)."

I can't imagine why you would feel that way

I agree, and I think that the older posts make it harder for newer contributors. There is so much going on that it is harder to figure out how everything is organized, and what is and isn't relevant.

I agree with all of Kindreds suggestions! I think having sticky notes or something to get away from all the "spam" type of stuff. I have had a few reviews that took a while to even get looked at due to the fact that they get pushed behind 'men vs. women' or 'scrabble' or something like that.

Also a link that integrates all the recent reviews. I know I can go to the eden community for that, but I have to scroll down 3/4 of the page past all the promotional reviews (that are gonna get 100 views) from the top products that are usually too expensive for me to own anyways, to get to them. And then they only show me 10 reviews at a time. Sometimes there are 30 from one day and I would like to see them all, cause not every product will interest me.

Sticky posts would be amazing for the clubs as well! With just the current forums being stuck until the meeting is over or something like that.

The ability to filter out folders would be awesome as well.

Well heck basically everything Kindred said...

OMG YES! I am so tired of being asked repeatedly if I would have a threesome that I am really considering answering completely evilly...like describing some totally Penthouse version of a threesome or saying HELL NO just to get some NEW conversations started!

Also, these are my suggestions.

1. I would like to be able to sort out WHAT activities of my followed contributors shows up on my wall. For instance, I really don't care who wants what, but I DO care about their comments, reviews and posts.

2. I would like to be able to selectively bring up a contributors recent activity, perhaps the option of "See Recent Activity" or "Contributor's Home Page" when you select them out of your list. That way my wall could switch to show only their activity until I changed contributors or switched it back to all.

3. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a way to find my Favorite contributors threads, other than having to switch the layout to alphabetical order and then search through hundreds of pages of threads to find the section encompassing theirs. (maybe a search bar specific to the forum with the option of what you would like to search for (Topic/Contributor/Dat e) This would be specific to only those things that appear in the thread line and none of the content posted within them.

4. I think perhaps the threads being closed could be limited to a number of responses as opposed to an end date, or possibly the option to choose. I mean, who REALLY wants to read through 254 posts to an question of "do you like it in the butt?". This one could just be me being whiney, I don't read these threads past maybe the first page and I only read em every once in a while but I doubt anybody is going to read all 10 pages of responses to that so it seems excessive to me. Obviously this would not work for discussions such as the parties and clubs but it would be nice to be able to set your own cut off point.

5. Now that I have said that I am just wishing there was a way to make certain threads invisible. Just like setting favorites, if there were a button which would make certain threads invisible to you on the main page that would be fantastic and would eliminate a huge amount of the clutter for most of us.

That is all I can come up with..... FOR NOW.

It's time with the forums exploding all over the place for closing some of the older time sensitive threads like the ones that advertise gift cards and such. I think if some older threads get locked it will declutter the forums and maybe if Kristi had permission to remove duplicate threads?

Something I would like to see is a way to edit the threads if you start them...or possibly be able to delete posts if the answer is found. Only our own threads, mind you not anyone elses.

Can we get some kind of a chatroom type feature that updates automatically when someone posts for the discussions? I think there must be something available that can also be saved so anyone who is interested could hit the link and see what was discussed??

Really it comes down to politeness I think, I love to hear from people who like my reviews but really? I don't need a "new follower" post.

Hun that's not what we're saying. If you have a question or comment then please post it! We are talking about people who post a question that has been answered and the answer is VERY easy to find...most of the time by scrolling down the active thread list. The OBVIOUS point farming. You always answer your threads and keep the conversation going, this is FINE. I don't mind answering the same question a dozen times if the person asking bothers to show up and read the replies!
Lots of times if some really amazing conversations have taken place on another thread that mirrors your post we will direct you to the thread...because we have been here a while and if you are new you might benefit from the other thread! I know people think this is rude but dang some of the discussions we've had have been exhausting and thorough. We believe you should get your answers because we actually do care that you feel welcome...problem is this is a print medium and that isn't always clear.
We love to talk and I mean we LOVE to talk....

You can delete discussions. I deleted one that I had started...oh wait that was one I had started for my personal store.
But this would be incredibly helpful. And there will always be new people that are willing to answer the already answered questions of past discussions. I just had to start a new discussion about addling photos to reviews, this would try someones patience if they had been asked it a bunch of times. I am sure as things are re-asked people that want to help new people will, like you all have helped them..

Okay... so I was chatting it up with DeliciousSurprise the other night... we were talking about this thread and SHE MENTIONED... the ability for a moderator to MERGE threads.

THIS would eliminate 400 threads about deep throating, load blowing facials, and threesomes! It's more work, maybe, but HOW MANY THREADS could we free up?!?!

There should be a box with the most recent reviews on the Review Page that can be found from your public profile. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see all the reviews that have been pounded out within the last day or two or three, depending on how many people push them out.

Or even if they suspend points for those with suspicious activities, like when someone starts 3 different threads in the same place with the same name, about the same thing. -_-

Or if there is repetition of farming tendencies, maybe a probationary points period for new people?

It's not like there isn't plenty of Edenites to fill those shoes ! IDK about everyone else, but I have been trying to get involved more with something like that for a while.

WHOA... You'll have to talk to the big wigs about hiring people on.... Kristi and JR (mostly Kristi, I think) are the forum admins. DS and I were just chatting... not planning... neither of us has that kind of POWAH (just elemental control... and that's mostly her... *snigger*)

But yes, there would be lots of people to fill those shoes. It would have to be someone who can remain unbiased, won't get involved in the argument but can keep peace, is very open-minded, and very very sex positive. (I'm more or less quoting DS here... she's SMRT)

Hrm. I feel like appointing mods could be... well if they hire someone else for the position, great, though that's asking a lot. If they merely appoint contributors... idk, I can see it leading to problems.

Here's what I want in order of importance:

-the ability to ignore a thread and never see it again.

-an indicator on the list of threads where someone has replied to one of my posts.

-options to mark a post 'agree' or 'disagree' to save users from replying just to say "What Kindred said is exactly what I think." Actually on my knitting forum, these two options are available along with 'educational', 'interesting' and 'love.' I find myself wanting to click these options all the time, then I remember that this isn't my knitting forum.

-the ability to delete or edit individual posts even after someone posted after me.

-the ability to follow a user with a selection on their flyout profile.

-the ability to click on something in a user's flyout profile to see all their posts in a particular thread.

-the ability to ignore a user and not see that users posts.

The ability to merge duplicate/similar threads would be fantastic. I would volunteer to help with that.

Contributors act as mods in my knitting forum. That seems to work. And don't think that because its about knitting that it doesn't get heated and that feelings aren't hurt in threads.

Also, a link at the bottom of a forum page to take you back to the main forum page so I don't have to scroll from the bottom to the top again and again and again.

And a tab or other way to see all threads where someone replied to one of my posts.

I would love to head a club or something, I pretty much missed out on that opportunity when I didn't have my internet

I was talking along the lines of appointing, not hiring. I don't think I made myself clear to you guys.. I just want to help make Eden a better place I could care less about getting hired, they do so much for me already that I just want to give back any way that I can. That's why I adopted a family for XMAS, even though that still wasn't giving back to Eden as much as I'd have liked.

Some really great ideas, most of them would get my vote.

I would like some way of putting certain folks that I follow on my profile page. Sure I can look through the 213 people I am following, but a lot of them were friends 200 back. I know a search will find them but it would be nice to be able to have a small list with links to like five contributors on my profile page.

I also would like to remove past comments on my wall. I have never needed to go back a year and see what so and so said.

I must agree that I'd love to make threads or users invisible or ignored. And though I see why they didn't want everyone to be able to edit or delete old posts (similar to why there will never be a chatroom) I would still LOVE to have that feature, at least with my club posts. Pleeeaaase.

It's not a big deal, I don't mind sharing my responses in any of those polls, it was just a rude surprise since I thought it would be private - you know, unfulfilled expectations and all that.

Also makes me wish the wall were editable.
