Help with choosing a lube please

Contributor: MrWood MrWood
My gf and I are wanting to begin experiencing with anal sex. I have purchaes a beginner kit and while shopping for a lube I didn't realize there were so many different ones and I have no idea of which one to purchase. What are the pros and cons of water based and silicone based and which do most of you that have anal sex prefer?

Also, any beginner advice would be more than welcomed!!

Thanks for helping us decide how to procede. I've had anal sex before but she never has, so advice really would be great.

Thanks!

I would go with a silicone lube for anal. JO makes a great silicone lube. We use it for anal play. If you are going to use silicone toys, you will either need to go with a water based lube or put a condom on your toy to protect it from the silicone lube. Water based lube will dry out faster and need to be reapplied. Silicone lube will keep everything lubed up and keep away any pain caused from dryness.

I was going to say Liquid Silk because it's nice, thick and just plain wonderful! But for anal, maybe something even thicker. Definitely look into lubricants specifically for anal. Sorry I can't recommend one -- I don't do anal, so I wouldn't know how to give good advice on anal-specific lubes. Someone will be able to give you suggestions here though. You'll probably get several still.

Being new to anal play I've only tried the JOPremium Anal Personal Lubricant but found it works well for me and my three glass Sexy Spades anal plugs. It is a silicone lube so be aware of it depending on what toys you use. I find it lasts quite a long while, at least 1 hour and the glass was still easy to remove when I was finished.

I'm quite partial to Wet brands silicone lube. A little big goes a very long way and will last far longer than water based. I've also found Hybrid by the same brand is fantastic, as well. It's not as messy and lasts almost as long. It's a mix if water based and silicone lube. Though, if you're trying it in a shower/pool straight silicone is the way to go. I strongly recommend some kind of training with toys like but plugs. Start small and work your way up!

For us thick lube is best. Our favorite has been discontinued here at EF. I have since however, purchased a few large bottles via amazon. A good second best from what is still available here at EF is either Maximus or Liquid Silk. We always keep some of both on hand.
