I am not going to test my chances with doing this, but I'm wondering what is the harm in using a regular body lotion as anal lube. Is this a huge no-no, or just not preferred?

"For external use only" for a reason. Don't use it. And it would probably burn pretty bad. The chemicals in most lotions would not be good for you.

rectal tissues are very sensitive and are not designed to come in contact with the harsh ingredients of a body lotion.

I have to ditto this. Body lotion isn't generally good for those sensitive areas.

Do not use any lotion as a lube, anywhere on your body. Lotion is used to moisturize the external skin, but the internal parts already have a natural lubricant on them. You must use a lubricant that compliments them or risk bleeding, burning or infection. Lotions are not sterile and lubricants are.

If you wouldn't put it in your mouth it definitely shouldn't go in your butt. Even some things that go in your mouth don't mix well with the butt. Body lotion isn't safe for either - look at the ingredients list and look some of them up. If you need homebrew lube then mix some vegetable shortening with oil to get a nice consistency, but don't use with latex condoms.

I did this before I knew anything about lubricants. I works ok for toys that stay put, like butt plugs, but like everyone has already said, it's probably not safe to do so. You never know what kind of chemicals will be absorbed.

You can get some pretty cheap lubes which are still better than lotion, but remember that you're putting it inside your body. Be nice!

Thanks everyone

No no no! Moisturizers don't actually add much moisture to skin, they just create a sort of seal that prevents the moisture in your skin from escaping for a bit. They're not actually all that "moist" so wouldn't be great as lube. Also some types of lubes aren't safe to use with condoms or silicone, that's probably true with moisturizers?
