For starters, plenty of lube is always critical. Sometimes it helps to start with a finger then maybe two to get things relaxed a bit. After that, tell him to ease in and once you are relaxed, then he can get busy. Porn movies make it look a lot different than reality from what I've experienced.

What has already been mentioned is good, lots of lube, use fingers - and maybe put yourself in the control position. Try lowering yourself down onto him, that way you can go as slow as you need to and control the penetration.

Lots of lube.. and then a bit more lube after that. But above all.. he needs tp slow down and have lots of patience. If it is actually hurting (and not in a good way) that's just not enjoyable and your partner really does need to restrain himself and learn to go easier.
