For us, however, liquids are simply too loose and not lubricating enough. We always prefer a GEL and it is almost always water based. We like how water based cleans up and doesn't destroy our toys. The best lube my wife and I have found for anything and everything is Slippery Stuff water-based gel. It's outstandingly slick and stringy, odorless, and tasteless.

I've tried a handful of lubes in over 20 years of having anal sex in relationships and I've found that the simplest is best - KY jelly, and even the generic brands. For fingers, toys or myself it just seems to stay on better. If it does dry out, a little saliva slicks it right back up again. The liquids I've tried get 'wiped off' and cause more pulling on the skin. I'd rather not use chemicals and then throw in the fact that water-based lubes wont harm any toy or stain anything and its the best for me.
Plus some generics even come in a handy pump now - which has a permanent place on my nightstand!

It's a bummer... butt I prefer to use organic ingredients compared to synthetic ingredients due to the fact that human rectums & colons are super absorbent, which makes sense because they help digest our food (or at least I'd hope so). Therefore, I personally do not like using silicone lube or gels up inside my booty. However, the downside to using natural ingredients is that they absorb somewhat quickly and you have to keep applying lube.

I use a water based gel good old Astroglide 1. it works well has not caused any problems the other night I fell asleep with a plug inserted, in the morning I just pulled it out with no problem. 2. I can buy it at my neighborhood Walgreens, so if I run out it's just a run up the street/

Our favorite is Swiss Navy silicone lube by MD science labs. It's the best we have found so far and lasts forever. Plus...it leaves your ass feeling silky smooth the next morning! Who doesn't want that?!

Also, I feel it's worth mentioning that silicone lube does not require nearly as much as water based lube does. Silicone lube is expensive...but you're using less per romp so it evens out. I've also recently seen swiss navy moving into CVS stores near us. Which is such a delight to see! Six months ago we could only purchase it online so we would have to sort of guess when we might need more and order ahead to be prepared. When we first tried it we ordered just a 2oz bottle....multiple times! Last time we ordered it (about 6 months ago) we went with the 8oz bottle and are running out. Now all I have to do is run to CVS down the block if we run out.

I've tried lots and lots of different lubes. If possible, silicone. Favorite is Pjur body glide. Favorite water based is Slippery Stuff Gel.

I mainly use water based lubricants. At the moment my favorite is the personal anal lubricant by H2O JO. I've also used another water based lube called Smooth & Slick by California Exotic Novelties. Both imitate natural body lubricants well enough for anal.

We don't normally use lube for anal. As my wife gets very very wet I can get my penis lubed by her vagina before anal. So I would say natural lube. If we do use a store bought lube it would be a water based liquid.

Any water based lube works fine for me, or coconut oil is nice too. Silicone feels great but it can be harder to clean up and can stain the sheets.

As nearly all the toys I have for use in foreplay before anal sex are silicone, I stick to water-based lubes. I usually warm up myself or partner w/ classic KY Jelly as it's consistency makes it easier to apply/work with.
I've had success with Maximus, but my current preference is Sliquid Sassy to really lube up my partner prior to penetration (sadly not available on here). I like these two as they are gel like liquids, which work great for a lube applicator/launcher, which I haven't found any on here to link to either.
I did use some silicone based lubes with my previous partner with success; however, she was experienced and didn't need as much foreplay to be in the mood/able to accommodate me. The nice thing with these is not needing to regularly reapply lube for extended anal sex.
I would definitely recommend trying the lube on a less sensitive area first before using. I've had burning sensations with KY, but only on the occasions I pushed my limits too fast and didn't adequately work myself up to using a larger toy. My favorite is Slippery Stuff Gel. Especially when applying lube to dildos and butt plugs before inserting, it is nice to use a lube that will stay in place. I like lubes that will not drip and will last for a long time.

@DancerKittyKat, this is the reason why I use K-Y might be worth trying others if they stay in place too. But kind of don't want lube going everywhere but where you need it when trying to insert things anally.
