A clean woman

Contributor: Polyserena Polyserena
Okay, I feel this one must have been talked about for donkey's years, so I hope I'm not showing disasterous ignorance or going into the TMI zone. Neither me or my boy are really big on oral. I know lots of guys don't mind the smell of a clean woman, but exactly what is 'clean'? I've heard soap is very bad on lady bits so the best mine get are a rinse in the shower in the morning. Me and my boy tend to reserve oral for after shower cuddles. But at the end of the day when spontaneity is the name of the game, who knows what it's gonna smell like down there? Do you use feminine wipes or something else and how did you go with it? Thanks

I really only consciously clean my vagina during my period, when I'll just do a quick rinse in the shower. For the most part, your vagina keeps itself clean with it's own bacteria that keep yeast and bad bacteria at bay. Actively cleaning your vagina with soaps or douches can disrupt your bacteria and cause yeast infections and other fun stuff like that. I'd say feminine wipes are ok but probably unnecessary, unless you're using them to clean stuff that's not supposed to be there from your vagina.

Personally, my guy has no problem going down on me any time of the day or night. At the end of the day my vagina smells like a vagina, and he's ok with that.

I'd think a good rinse off (not out) would be fine.

There is a difference between cleaning off and cleaning out. Keep that in mind. Don't douche. It is not good for you. Neither is soap really. I do rinse, and I use an all organic soap to wash off (lightly) just the outer parts...I never go into it because as LikeSunshineDust said, your vagina cleans itself...rinse if you do clean the outer parts. Rinse very very well.

I second this completely.

You don't want to use body wash or soaps that have fragrance, but it's always a good idea to lather and rinse every day. Wash around and between the folds of your labia. Actively avoid getting any soap inside you, and rinse thoroughly. I once spent a day thinking I'd developed a UTI and it turned out that I just hadn't rinsed as well. Showered off, problem solved, but not a fun way to go.

I personally hate soap like dove as it irritates my skin and doesn't leave me feeling clean (quite contrary to their ad campaigns), and I stick to plain old standbys like lever or Irish Spring.

Ph balanced soap. Simply rinsing a few times a day with just water will not get rid of the oily, sweaty apocrine excretions that turn rancid easily.

I use mild castile soap and have had no problems. Mine smells like amaretto! (Dr. Bronner's Almond). As long as it doesn't get in the vagina, you're totally fine.

I use what ever kind of soap I don't have an allergy to. Never had any problems with UTI's or getting yeast infections, but then again I'm very OCD about my cleaning habits. Never douche, I never understood what that stuff was really suppose to do any way I've always heard more women say bad things over the good. I know it is for a good cleaning out but what I have always heard is that it was for women that had a "smell" down there.

I've gone down on women in all states of cleanliness and 'spontaneity' But as an older guy, I appreciate what my wife does to make the experience as enjoyable as possible to me - so I can return the favor of a lengthy session of oral love that it takes to satisfy her. If you're going to be down there for a while cleanliness matters - a lot!

First she keeps her vulva shaved - this takes care of about 99% of the odor and cleanliness issues. Just the thought of what's growing in the hairs of an 'eu naturalle' woman makes my skin crawl! A close trimming is almost as good - but much to my liking, SHE actually enjoys the added sensation of my tongue licking her clean skin instead of the stubble.

Second - when possible she uses a wet-wipe (commonly called diaper or baby wipes) after urinating - especially if she knows we're going to be intimate. There's nothing worse than picking bits of toilet paper from your teeth when your trying to please your woman!

Finally since I enjoy adding a little rimming to our oral play - she's always ready with the area shaved and wet-wiped clean.

It might seem like a lot of effort - but we consider it common courtesy for each other - I shave and keep wipes clean in a similar way.

Bits of TP, gross! The man always wonders why I spend more $$ on the thicker tp. Regardless of intimacy, I can't stand stuff that dissolves on contact! I'm also a strange urinater. Is that even a word?

I try and aim for getting the least amount actually *on* me, and try to shoot for a steady stream directly in the bowl. Then I can just pat dry. It's odd how many TMI subjects on here have permitted me to share waaaaaaaay too many details of my ocd behavior.

Dr Bronners is an excellent soap for washing your intimate parts. It can also be used as a mouth wash in liquid form, that's how good it is. You can use it more than once a day and not upset the pH or dry out your skin.

As long as people take showers on a regular basis, nothing will "grow" in their pubic hair, just like nothing will grow in my best friend's goatee or my waist-length hair as long as we take a shower.

I am super OCD about cleanliness down there. I will never let my man get his face near my vagina unless I have just showered and I clean with regular soap and have no issues with soap. I clean my labia but not inside the vagina. I would be so ashamed of odor or as mentionned above, that my man finds little pieces of toilet paper stuck down there bcs it happens. I had a friend who hadn't showered for 3 days and let her man go down on her....I was mortified. I couldn't understand how she felt comfortable to do that.

For me its just respecting that my man is doing me a treat and I want him to enjoy it as much as I will.

If we feel like doing it spontaneously I run quickly to the washroom, wet a washcloth and wash with soap and rinse after wards using the washcloth. I keep fresh wipes from "always" in my bedstand so If I am tired and want to take my shower the next morning but we want to have sex then I just quickly use a wipe.

I so agree here. I am not sure why anyone would think something was growing in a woman's hair. As long as you shower and take care of yourself...you don't have to go all crazy and scrub scrub scrub, you won't sprout a small mammal. And if the person has something growing in her hair, a shower won't likely fix that...common sense would say she has an STI or just really bad hygiene practices.

The truth! You're not licking the hide of a small forest animal here, mister. Unless a lady who's chosen a fuller bush has shown really poor habits in hygiene, it's not going to become a dense jungle that hides creepy crawlies. True, it is a little bit more to maintain, since hair can trap oil and dead skin, but a regular wash with gentle, pH-balanced soap will take care of it.

As for me, I used to lather up with an organic tea tree oil soap, but it was still too harsh for me. Nowadays, gentle washing with warm/warmer water for a few minutes during my daily shower is good enough. My boyfriend usually has a nice way of letting me know if he'd like me to change something about my hygiene down there (like when he wanted me to shave because it "obstructed his view" ), and he hasn't mentioned anything about smell.

"You're not licking the hide of a small forest animal here," LOL I am so dying of laughter here that is great.

Anywho what I was going to say I totally agree with everyone who is saying wash out not in. In my mind I feel cleaner when I am shaved. As I sometimes have to potty in places that have cheap TP I always double check before I get off the pot. But I love baby wipes by the bed. They are great before and after sex and when I am too tired after masturbation I will use it with my bedside toy cleaner.
Because I really hate getting out of bed toy clean a toy right then. I'd rather sleep.

I usually take a shower in the morning and a shower in the evening. I always use a washcloth with regular, gentle soap and thoroughly clean myself externally. When it comes to rinsing I do what I call "the finger sweep" - with a clean middle finger I thoroughly rinse out the inside of my vagina using water that falls from the showerhead. I've never had any problems with weird pH or decrease in natural lubricant.

I also use a fresh wipe (flush friendly) EVERY time I go to the bathroom. No exceptions. I also use light breathable pantiliners too so I can in essence get a fresh panty.

It may seem obsessive, but I love knowing I'm always fresh and clean downtown - it makes me feel sexy!

You really, really should never rinse out your vagina, even in that manner. It cleans itself and doesn't need any assistance.

For a second there, I thought you were saying that you spritz your vagina with toy cleaner, and then I realized that you meant you used it as part of your post-masturbation cleanup. Phew! I'm not sure whether spritzing yourself with toy cleaner would lead to problems, but it's a chance I'd prefer to avoid.

I would just like to add that using baby wipes or panty liners constantly when they are not needed is usually considered a bad idea by most gynecologists. According to my gyno, it's kind of like a bubble bath: you can take one once in a while, but if you do it every night, you're bound to rough yourself up.

link
link
link

And just because you've used them without trouble doesn't mean it's a good idea all around. I get this all the time with make-up every time I say you have to wash it off at night to keep your skin healthy: "I don't wash my make-up off at night, and I'm just fine!" Well, first of all, half of those women are lying; they're actually breaking out consistently or are covered in blackheads, and then they're using more make-up to cover it up. And the ones who ARE fine are the lucky ones.

If you REALLY want to use something to keep yourself "fresh," use something that's actually made for an adult vulva, like Summer's Eve wash, and definitely consult your gyno first. However, I also think we have to get used to the fact that the human body does, in fact, produce some scents, and that includes the musky smell that tends to float around male AND female genitals. It's your crotch, ladies, not the botanical gardens.

You can't be serious - how many of you women out there wear only loose - white cotton underwear and never use fabric softener? OK come clean - I'm sure you never wear a thong!

These same sites (Dartmouth & UA) are recommending olive oil & crisco as lubricants! These academics have gone off the deep end - if they follow their own advice I'd be shocked - and pity their poor significant others.

What happened to common sense & moderation?

I have to agree with you. Don't wear pantyhose? Don't use BABY WIPES?! I apologize, but those are unintelligent. No one dies and no one gets hurt from doing that.

It's no wonder why so many people smell (and taste) rancid nowadays. "Great" tips like these. I believe that everyone takes them out of context; they seem to only be taking about extreme cases where the person has incessant wetness vaginally.

You really shouldn't wear thongs for daily wear, maybe just for a special occasion. Also, a lot of women do wear cotton underwear, and by loose I'm sure they just mean not suffocating. I only wear cotton. There are lots of cute cotton options like the Pink line from Victoria's Secret.

I agree with that (I love cotton panties on my partner), though there are many women who I personally know of who ONLY wear thongs (my sibling isn't a good example, but my mum is) who rarely have problems vaginally and who are very sanitary and clean.

Apparently my post on the issue caused offense. As with all my posts, they are a personal perspective I certainly read things in this forum that offend me - but I choose to ignore them because they are given in an open forum that included people that I do not personally agree.

However apparently others choose to take offense and I apologize to those took offense at my comments.

Please lighten up - it's OK to disagree - can we agree to disagree?
