Some people are asshats who think they know everything. Also, some people may not realize that what they're saying comes across like they're stating a fact when it's a matter of opinion. I think it's mostly the second one, but I've seen some posts here and there that feel more like the first one. Although it's hard to tell because of that whole no tone of voice on the Internet thing.

Exactly what Sam said. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, since you really can't tell tone or intent online. But then again, there are people who think they know everything and that everything they think is right. I tend to skip over those posts and just keep on readin'!

This is a problem in a lot of life, I think... I know I'm guilty of it occasionally, even out loud---but it's the "not realizing that I'm coming across as stating fact," rather than the "being an asshat"... I just assume that people understand that, if I say something, it's just my own opinion and they are totally free to disregard it or believe the opposite.

Hope I haven't offended anyone! And---it's the internet, let's give everybody the most charitable interpretation, and know that most people are just offering opinions, and don't expect you to take them to heart unless you happen to think their opinion makes sense.

I think Sam is right. I notice that most people posting online ANYTHING tend to state things in a tone of fact, rather than opinion, whether they mean to be asshats or not. I give people the benefit of the doubt if they aren't directly attacking a different opinion. Conscientious people are are careful to note that their statements are simply what they think, rather than fact, or have a tendency to express an appreciation for and interest in differing opinions, and I think that would be an awesome trend to see in general.

There are always know-it-all's everywhere you go, whether its on Eden, on Facebook, or generally in life. Ignore people who waste your patience with know-it-all attitudes, and appreciate people who care about contributing to a discussion, rather than having the final word.
