"Separate but equal" rhetoric generally entails a lack of equality. Just saying.

It is still a marriage, and should have the right to be called one.

It should just be marriage. Plain and simple, with the right benefits.

Should stay "marriage". Nothing wrong with that.

I think it should stay with the name it has, honestly. People who are against gay 'marriage' aren't against the name. They're against equality, period, so changing the name won't accomplish anything

Marriage. Too call it anything else is trying to claim it as something else, and thus taking away what the title implies.

I think it should remain marriage. I want to be able to marry my girlfriend. I want her to be my wife. I don't want to have a civil union partnership with her. It's not the same thing.

no reason it shouldn't be called a marriage.

Agreed. The marriage itself doesn't depend on what parts the people have.

Here is my idea:
How bout we have some separation of church and state. Let's make straight and gay civil unions legal. Change the term for everyone. It should be a government concept that gives the legal rights of marriage. If you want holy matrimony, you are welcome to find a priest and have a religious ceremony with it.

I would say that's a win-win for everyone.

No reason to change the name, it's still two people getting married.

Changing the name would devalue what they have and its the same as any other coupling of people who are in love and want to share their lives together

Marriage. I didn't ask her to "civil union" me.

Most people prefer the phrase "equal marriage" because people want to marry regardless of gender and sexual preference. If marriage could just be a joining of two adult human beings then the issue would be much simpler.

Those who disapprove really do need to be tweaked with the knowledge that the Due Process clause of the Fifth Amendment to our Constitution is upholding equality throughout the land.

To be married IS to be united. So why call it something that it's not? Marriage isn't a religious thing. It is also a federal thing. Call it what it is: a marriage.

I agree that gay marriage should be called something else. Marriage. Just marriage. No "gay" or "homosexual" attached to it.

Marriage is mostly a joke that was created to give rights to some and to keep them from others (my own personal opinion). It also stigmatized many vulnerable groups (single mothers for one). However, changing the term marriage into something else would just be another inequality.

Totally agree. Sometimes I get a bit tired of hearing 'gay marriage this' or 'gay marriage that'. It should just be called 'marriage', we don't need to put the word gay in front of it. It kinda makes a connotation that it is somehow different than regular marriage. when I get married, I would like it to be known that I've just gotten married...lol, not gay married.
