Christmas puzzle. What on earth is a "humbug"?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
I know that bugs don't hum. They make all kinds of noises, but not one of them I know of hums. Maybe it's a bug that "doesn't know the song"?

What is your thought on this?

With all of our politicians and our government continuously engaging in it, it is unfortunate that this word humbug is now nearly exclusively associated with a single character from a work of fiction.

hahaha, love you comments. annnnnnd, ever curious, I had to research what a hum bug is. this is what I found from a dictionary online:

"humbug:

1. Something intended to deceive; a hoax or fraud.

2. A person who claims to be other than what he or she is; an impostor.

3. Nonsense; rubbish.

4. Pretense; deception."

yeah, RonLee, I think you got it right as it being a "name" for politicians et al.
