a new year is upon us. as many have expressed, the Community is just not satisfying. so given that, how would you like to see Community evolve?
In 2014, how would you like to see EF's Community evolve?

Hmmm I'd Like it to become a bigger, better community like it was when I first joined... I don't really know how to say it any better, it just hasn't been as active as I remember...

When you hear the word community, what comes to mind first?
For me, it's a group of people making the best of their surroundings at all times. It's people pitching in, taking initiative and getting things done -- not waiting around for others to grab their hands and lead them in the right direction.
If you all want more fun things to do around here, then you need to participate on a consistent basis in the things we already have. Leave comments on reviews, write reviews -- if you see a really good review from someone give them a kudos on their wall. Start forum discussions that have a purpose -- whether it's to educate or entertain, both are great ways to get people to join in and get to know you.
The only thing to keep in mind is that we can't discuss certain topics like incest or bestiality and we should always be polite and open to another person's point of view, whether we agree with it or not. This is what fosters the community you all crave so much.
I try to play devil's advocate a lot to put both sides of the coin in a discussion, however I am only one person and it takes many voices to keep things alive.
If you see something that's interesting or a thought pops into your mind that you want to know more about -- post it!
I want to keep doing the rumble, but thirteen votes a week makes it seem like no one is interested. The greater the amount of participation, the more we will be able to do. Then perhaps we can bring back rewards like $10 gift cards towards an order or something like that.
It's really up to you guys to make this place what you want it to be. I'm here to give you ideas and suggestions (and to make sure things run smoothly), but if no one is participating what's the point in doing it? If there are no facebook likes or shares or new people coming in, the community will stay closed off and I really don't think anyone wants that. I know I certainly don't.
So we took a pretty big tumble -- there were mistakes made. No one is denying any of this, but it's time we move on. Let's be supportive of something that continues to be innovative and unique! We're always open to suggestions! Just drop me a line in a PM or post it on the forum to see what others think.
It's not all doom and gloom, unless you want it to be.

I'd like special events like the edencooks things or similar.

I think something I would like to see is a weeding through of all of the reviews. There are some reviews that are outdated and voted slightly helpful or unhelpful... and there are still a lot of links available to items that are no longer even available on the page.
Something else I would like to see is that if an item is discontinued and it's on a wishlist, for it to disappear altogether excepting in reviews.
I realize saying that we should weed through reviews might mean some of mine get deleted, but I think some items that have upwards or 50+ reviews might be a little much. I'm guilty of reviewing the little things myself that either have way too many reviews or were free items I got with my order. That was a little unfair, oops. haha.
Something else I would like to see is us bringing in new people ourselves. Maybe coming together or form a group that educates people about sex toys. They're different uses, how to clean, etc.
Every day there is someone else who is new to the realm of sex toys and was is and isn't safe to use or safe practices with them. Maybe we could have a group of "sex educators" much like we have our Review Program Mentors.

I'd like to see the return of EdenGames. Just don't award points for posting in them. They're sometimes funny and often good time-wasters at work.

I'm not totally sure. I see the mentor program as more of a guide for helping people write good reviews. I see it more of a... real life sex education teacher? Where they don't give you bullshit like they do in junior high and high school. Someone who can tell you all the dirty details and give you straight facts and help to guide you in choosing things that are right for you.

That's a good point because opinion could easily get muddled into that and kind of mix things up a lot.

It really is a slippery slope. I hate it, but there are many people (myself included at times) who speak so strongly that it's very, very convincing. Of course, this could all be refuted by a good, healthy debate on the matter.

I would LOOOOVE to see more debate around here, in general. I think they're fun and it keeps people on their toes and thinking about ways to improve not only their own sexual habits but find new ideas they might not have thought of without the discussion. In order for this to work, there needs to be a decent amount of participation.
It honestly saddens me to see/hear/read things (in general) like "well, I'd never tell my friends or share that with them"...I know not everyone can or should be open with their specific desires and wants but I see no harm in a general, perhaps even abstract, discussion on the topic.

Can you explain the "Rumble" to us newcomers ?
01/01/2014
Quote:
basically, the Rumble was a weekly contest where members would nominate a review & then the reviews would be voted on as being the favorite/best review. a gift card was awarded to the reviewer who's review got the most votes.

Hiatus would be a better word. I'd be more than happy to get it rolling again but people have to vote and make nominations. I knew for about a month before the mentor program was actually up and running again that it [the mentor program] was coming back so I tucked the Rumble away until we get some better quality reviews out there.

Just never be afraid to ask questions, whether it's to me or to other community members. Once you start clicking on things and poking around a little bit, it's pretty self-explanatory. Most, if not all, of the information you need can be found on the dashboard panel.

The Rumble was a lot of fun, but I must admit that I didn't participate in it as much as I could have because I am generally scared away from posts that have a TON of replies because I almost feel like I'll get lost in the wash. And that's not anything that should be fixed, it's just the reason why I didn't vote as much as I could have to add to the community.

To add on to your community definition and that of others- I also think of goal-oriented mindset when it comes to community. I've had great discussions in which a lot of us disagreed but left more informed and inquisitive because we were all aware that we had common interests/goals. I'm a big fan of people pushing my thinking, and appreciate it when it happens in a community (online or otherwise).
I also think of people asking for and sharing information in communities. On that note, something I'd also like to see is people encouraging others to participate, whether they know them online or in-person. I came across the boards on my own, but wouldn't have done so if a close friend hadn't suggested that I become more educated in the world of sex positive blogging, review sites, product sites, etc. since I had little to no information at the time (and let's be honest, can still expand my knowledge).
