Does Memorial Day mean Cooking Out to you?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
What's new/special for cookouts this year. Sadly, I have to work. So does my hubby...but we are still planning a cookout in the afternoon on Memorial Day.
Anyone have any new, great food suggestions?

My hubby is going to try and make his own "Italian Ices". He is going to use an "ice shaver", and add Mango Juice, with pulp. Let it freeze, then do a layer above it with strawberry juice (with pulp....just blended strawberries), and maybe a top layer of smoothed banana. Then a spritz of whip cream and some sliced almonds.

Sounds yummy. Hope it turns out. He's never tried this before.

we cook out when its nice outdoors. Unfortunately, summer does not hit until after July 4. well, more like the middle of June.

I don't know what we are doing. I have Monday off. But I'm sure we will do stuff Sunday afternoon.

To me, Memorial Day means "once again, those crazy yanks are behind in their celebrations. First Thanksgiving, and now this?"
(I jest)

Other than the shaved ice, what do you intend to cook? I have lots of barbecue suggestions, but without knowing what your standard menu consists of, I definitely don't know if they're new. =)

Not sure what we will do on Memorial Day. I can't think that far in advance!

Yep, we have a cook out, with the normal complement of BBQ foods (hot dogs, burgers, chicken, etc.)

Yes, will definitely bbq burgers and dogs as usual. Should be perfect weather where I live this weekend. Beer chicken is always a neat thing to bbq as well.

Burgers one day - and probably pollo-asada another day - maybe ribs too - if I get ambitious.

I work from 2:30 to 6:30 that day. Time and a half at least.

And I have no plans yet.

Memorial Day usually marks the start of camping season for my family and I and we usually go on a big 5 day trip. Unfortunately, my parents are camping this year without me and my partner. He has to work so I didn't want to leave him all alone.

Maybe I'll barbecue something on Monday anyways...

I am not doing anything this year for it. I don't own a grill at the moment and I have no family around to cook out for and I don't have many friends here either.

I'm thinking of cooking some juicy porterhouse steaks sometime during the weekend this year. Maybe Sunday

Cooking out means summer is here, which is a wonderful thing!

Going to a friend's bbq this year. It more means fun in the sun to me than cooking out. Cooking out usually fits into the plans though.
