Poetry on Valentine's Day...Yah or Nay.

Contributor: Entropy Entropy
I love reading poetry, but is it too corny to read some to your lover on Valentine's Day?

If my husband did this, I'd divorce him.

Depends on how SHE feels about Poetry. Does she or he know you are "into it"? If so, GO for it. Worst they can do is laugh.

I wouldn't be into it. At all.

If he were like, Ryan Adams or something and wrote me a song, maybe we can talk. But just some dude and a poem, not a chance.

I wouldn't be into it. But we don't like any holidays, Valentine's Day included. I'd rather hear poetry read on any other day besides Valentine's Day. Your lover may have a completely different opinion on the subject though!

I like poetry, even if it's goofy. Something sweet, but not overly serious.

<.< I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority but I'd love that.
Then again my boyfriend and I are both avid readers and writers.

I'd love it, but my husband isn't really a romance kinda guy so it would be unexpected. I love poetry. I'd probably giggle a little, but it would be special.

Only if it's good poetry. Not schmaltzy greeting card stuff - go for Shakespeare or Elizabeth Barrett Brown or something similar.

A card is nice enough. I've never been with anyone that wrote poetry &my fiance isn't a good writer so I don't expect any. I guess it could be flattering as long as it's not too cheesy.

Poetry is cool if it's real and not cheesy and from the heart.

Good poetry is sexy and stimulating. Bad poetry is corny and embarrassing.

I'm just not much into poetry from my guy. I love him to death but just not my style

My guy's default gift for the women in his family used to be poems. He's never done it for me, but I think it's sweet.

It would really depend on the poetry....most of the Valentine themed poetry is pretty lame, but a card inscribed with a sonnet like Shakespere would be awesome and way less corny.

if you wanted to be original then it would only work if it was really personal and meaningful

Depends on if she likes poetry the rest of the year. I love poetry, personally, and I would think a gift of e.e. cummings love poems would be beautiful, especially if you know how to read them properly.

One author I love wrote about having only poetry on her honeymoon, which she and her husband read to each other every day. But, both of them were absolutely crazy about language and literature and poetry.

Awww, I would love for my bf to write me a poem for V-Day. He is already super sweet, and I could picture him doing something like this!

I'll go for it, the worst that can happen is she'll laugh it off

I think it COMPLETELY depends on the person. If she loves poetry like me or likes laughing at poetry, then go for it.
