Do you prefer REALLY FANCY dining or more FAMILY TYPE Restaurants for special occasions?

If it is just you and your significant other, do you like really "doing it up" at a super fancy place or do you prefer more laid back family dining..even for special occasions?

We like really having a chance to dress up fancy, once in a while, and do the "full out fancy" dinner, but we have friends...RICH friends....who can afford to go and eat anywhere, any time, and they prefer...even for an anniversary or birthday, to chow down at Olive Garden or Applebees!!! Just their style! How about YOU?

Somewhere in between I guess. I would not enjoy some fancy 5 star professional high class restaurant that costs $30 for a wafer thin piece of food. lol

But I do like some fancier places for special occasions. Saturday I am going out to a real nice fancy Italian Bistro. It's going to be really nice!

We're not into 'Fine Dining' we can't afford it - and by now, even if we could we wouldn't want to waste the money. We'd rather save up for a trip or some other luxury.

It depends on the occasion and also how money's doing at the time. I would say that a really FORMAL dinner is something that I would enjoy once a year or so, and lower price points are better for occasional dining out. I honestly prefer to be cooked for and just eat at home, though.

Well considering the most "fancy" place we have been to were Fatz/Applebees/Olive Garden, which are great for families, its also what I prefer.

Yeah, I totally agree. Super fancy is fine a couple of times a year, but for more everyday stuff I'd rather go for a lower price point. But I also just really like eating at home in my comfy clothes. lol

We go where the food is good, doesn't really matter whether it's a fancy place or family style restaurant.

I'm more on the fancy than family side.

Mostly family places are too commercialized for my liking; see "The End of Over-eating".

"Friendly's" is the best non-commercial family place I've been to.

Quiet and intimate, doesn't have to be fancy or expensive.

Since I have never been with anyone who took me to a fancy restaurant (both of my exes were too cheap to do it) I am wanting to give one a try. I can imagine I would prefer that to going to a family style restaurant simply for the fact I love to dress up.

We prefer to go to something a bit fancier... just because we don't really get many opportunities to dress up.

We only go to fancy restaurants once in a blue moon. I don't like the high prices. Actually our favorite places are hole-in-the-wall places with great food.

Most of the places we go are somewhere in-between. A lot of places we go are either small local places, or bar/restaurant establishments.

Casual, family dining.

We're more comfortable at laid back, casual kind of places.

Most of my favorite places are casual anyway and I hate the environment of fancy upscale restaurants. If someone took me to Cracker Barrel for my birthday I probably wouldn't care... If the food is good then I really don't care.

I dislike family restaurants generally speaking. I'm at a stage of my life when I prefer a quiet atmosphere, accompanied with fine food. That said, when my children were young, we patronized many a family restaurants due to budgetary needs, and out of respect for those diners who did not have children.

I do like to eat super fancy food and do it up real nice, but there's always that part of me that would rather save that money for something else.

Still, sometimes it's a once-in-a-lifetime sorta thing and you have to go for it. For instance, when we ate in the Dungeon at Dalhousie Castle in Scotland, the meals were about $100 per person. It was also easily one of the most amazing (if not THE most) meals I've ever had.

We don't have fine dining where I live anyway, so we go to a sort of upscale southern place for special occasions.

Family dining, definitely. It's nicer to have a more casual dinner than getting all dressed up
