I don't find them scary at all. commercials for campaign ads are scary

As a father of young kids I say they go too far. It's fine if they come on later at night when kids are likely in bed, but when they come on in the middle of the day it ticks me off personally. I have to try to find some way to distract my kids from the tv or change the channel before they see anything.

I hate commercials for scary movies. These days the only scary parts are all put in the commercials. Then when you go see the movie, you notice that the commercials for it are more exciting than the movie itself. gets on my nerves

Commercials rarely bother me since I can change the channel, but in-theater trailers are another matter. I tolerate 'scary' ones because the truth is I don't find very many of them scary. Paranormal Activity 357 or whatever number they're up to and The House at the End of the Street actually struck me as boring. However, trailers for things that fall under the genre of torture porn upset me.

I have been known to plug in my noise canceling headphones and turn on whatever I have at hand: iPod, Kindle, PSP, ANYTHING to block out what's on the screen. Maybe the people around me think it's rude that I do that in a theater (since my electronics light up), but I think it is unconscionable that I'm subjected to that content without my consent. Just because I buy a ticket to an R-rated action flick, or espionage thriller, does not mean I want to see a screaming teenager dismembered by a hatchet-wielding lunatic in a trailer. That is too far.

I love, love, love horror movies. I used to be so scared of them, but not anymore. What I don't love being tricked by the trailers. I thought Paranormal Activity was bullshit. There were a couple of sweet camera tricks, but all in all a mediocre film in my opinion. I actually prefer the trailer to be less frightening, then you have more to look forward too with the film, instead of being disappointed.

I think this could be expanded to encompass other genres such as action. Often they show you the best scenes in the trailer so... yeah. I don't watch scary movies, but I assume it's kinda like that that you're talking about? I think it might just be something we'll have to live with and expect from advertising in the future.

They don't go to far but most of the time if you watch the commercial you've seen the whole movie.

I agree

i am frightened easily, so i almost always have to turn off the TV, leave the room, or close eyes/cover my ears/and sing really loudly to block out the noise.

I think you can't really generalize. Sometimes I feel like I've seen the whole movie by the time the preview is over (and not just scary movies on that one), and other times they tease the film just right.
I specifically remember that the previews for both Buried and The Crazies were really well done, both had me on the edge of my seat saying "I have to see that movie!", but neither one really gave too much away.

It's kind of the point you want to scare people so they will watch the movie

Thank you! Someone else who thought PA was a complete disgrace to the horror genre.

Honestly I feel as though they are trying too hard to scare people using shock tactics in movies. It gets old really quick and it's one of the reasons I don't really find scary movies to be "scary" anymore same goes for trailers. I don't really find them interesting when they try and make it seem like somethings always going to pop out of somewhere. :/
