I cried so much during the Return of the King.

Hmm...maybe the first? Hard to pick between that and RotK. The whole trilogy is so good, especially the extended versions.

Hmm. I guess the Fellowship of the Ring, but I wasn't really enamored with any of the movies. Too many close-ups of Elijah Wood's eyes, for starters. I also didn't like the liberties taken with the source material as far as characterization. And the scourging of the Shire should have stayed in! *is bitter*

Return of the king. I actually never really cared for the Fellowship of the ring.

I am bitter about so many things in the films. LOL What about the Faramir and Eowyn story line? They just show up together at the end. And why is Faramir all into wanting the ring when he's pretty much the only person in the books that doesn't?

Also agree about the Scourging of the Shire.

Also think Sam leaving is complete BULL. He NEVER would have done that!

Too much weird stuff added to Arwen's plot line. She's dying over the ring or some nonsense? What the hell?

The list continues and I'm already getting re-irritated when I haven't given much thought to these things in a while.

Two Towers was my favorite book because of The Courage of Master Samwise (I believe is the title of that chapter but I do not have my books in front of me at the moment). They moved that part into RotK in the films, thus that is my favorite film. Sam is my all time favorite character in any film or book ever. While the movies did piss me off in many ways I think Sean Astin did a great job with Sam.

And yes, I am a total LotR nerd. I have the Evenstar tattooed on my lower back and "hope" in Elvish on my shoulder. *geek*

I guess I'm the only one who likes Two Towers the best, I think it has the best battle scenes and it's lack of total resolution I really enjoy.

I like the first one the most, but they all were good.

I understand how things had to get cut to make the movie, but some things really should've stayed as written, e.g. "The Burning of the Shire".

I still tear up a bit at the end(s) of "Return of the King".

I love them all
I like the first one the most because it is so informative and builds up the rest or the story.

I can't choose. To me LotR is one and undivided - the way Tolkien intended. It got divided into 3 books just 'cause the paper was expensive.

Fellowship, I love the scenes in Rivendell and Lothlorien. The elves were always my favorite characters. <3
Also, I sort of agree with Wild Orchid, the 'trilogy' was intended to be one singular story but a movie that long would probably annoy even the most loyal Tolkien fan.

Yeah, agreed. I voted only for the points, but honestly, I couldn't tell you which one I preferred. Love it as a whole.

I voted RotK but it was a hard choice. I love these movies, in spite of the differences and lacks from the books. Hubby and I watch all three, back to back, every new year's day...

I love all the LOTR movies! Sometimes I would get upset about how they changed some of the things I loved about the books, but overall they were very well done. But it seems the first one was the best and I liked it best, the second second best and the third was rushed and unpolished feeling in spite of the fact it was too long. Can't wait for the hobbit!!!!!

They were all wonderful, but the last had me moved to tears. It certainly captured a lot of the emotion from the books, even with things being changed around.

last one was a really REALLY good movie with lots of closing of plot holes and tying up of loose ends.

plus come on that thing that aragorn made happen at the end was epic and game changing. it was almost cheating.

SO AWESOME!

also if you haven't seen the extended editions, DO IT they are soo much better and the originals are already perfect 10s

RotK simply for the epic nature of some of the more basic moments throughout the film that stand out to me as more meaningful than a bit of the audience pleasing inserted banter.

If it can't be the extended version, it has to be the Fellowship.
Extended versions included makes it Return of the King all the way.

All of these movies played such a big part in my life that it's extremely difficult for me to pick just one. That said, I'd have to go with RotK simply because it was the ultimate culmination of everything. Yes, each of the movies had their flaws (I'd have loved to see PJ's treatment of Tom Bombadil), but there mostly things that I'm okay with, because they were things that had to be changed for the movies sake. I remember sitting in the theater bawling my eyes out, thinking "It's OVER! There'll never be anything like this again!"

But now we have The Hobbit to look forward to.

I loved them all, but Return of the King was my favorite--the stakes are the highest, and the emotions are the most intense. Plus, I have an unhealthy love for bittersweet endings...

I voted Return of the King, but I'm thinking I should've gone with Two Towers... or maybe Fellowship...

I vote that the trilogy as film, just like as books, shouldn't actually BE a trilogy... just one long story (which is how Tolkien created it - it was the publishers who split it up).

"Two Towers" was, for some reason or another, the one I saw most as a kid, so that one's my favorite based on nostalgia points. Despite this, I think "Fellowship" is the best movie of the three.
