Are any of you ex-smokers?

I'm trying to quit smoking right now. What methods did you use to help aid you in quitting, if any?

I have quit many times. I've used all aids including Chantex. I would be able to quit for good if my husband would quit as well. A pack lasts me 2 to 3 days, he smokes 1.5 to 2 packs a day. What can I do?

I still smoke, but only natural tobacco, as it doesn't have those harmful additives.

I am not an ex-smoker, but I do want to use the e-ciggs, just because they are healthier and can be used indoors in areas where you can't smoke (like inside of apartments, or houses with pets when you're paranoid of giving them second hand smoke)

thankfully I never have been a smoker, but for those who do I know it's really hard to quit.

It has been 2 1/2 years since I have had a cig. You just have to stop, no patches, no gum, just stop... It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I did it!

I'm not a smoker (ex or otherwise) but my mother (a smoker of about 25 years) has been quit for over a year now. She used a combination of Chantix, willpower, and lollipops.
I'm really proud of her for finally being able to quit actually. =)

It's been 22 yrs. and I used the cold turkey method. I had asthma at the time and really only had two choices. Breathe or smoke.

My dad had heart issues and was in the hospital for days and ended up quitting cold turkey that way. He had no choice in the matter, can't smoke while you're in the hospital and if you went that long not smoking might as well stay with it.

I've never smoked so that's my experience with it.

The urge is always there, but I've managed to resist for over 10 years, all cold turkey.

I never liked cigarettes, but the worst thing you can do is just trade one addiction for another. I know alot of people who've done this and it doesn't get any better.

Non-smoker here..always will be. I am very sensitive to the smell too. My grandfather did smoke, but my parents never did thankfully. My grandfather died from lung problems because he never stopped.

I used Nicoderm patches - didn't even attempt quitting cold turkey. It worked for me as I've only tried to quit smoking once (1-2 packs a day smoker) - and it's been a little over 18 years since my last cigarette.

I got wickedly ill a while ago with something in the bottom of my throat upper chest that looked like someone had poured acid in that area. It hurt like the dickens!!! I couldn't breathe without being in pain, I was coughing up the tissue of my lungs and throat... it was not only gross but I felt like I was in pain for days.

And China refuses to prescribe pain meds. So I had to fight it and a lower back injury with no pain meds.

I was getting some tests run (thank god I am in China where you can smoke in the hospitals), and started to light up and the doctor and I got to talking. All I could smoke was a few short puffs before I had to make the choice breathe or smoke. I asked what would be the safest, quickest and best way to heal. The doctor told me that because the flesh in my throat was so poorly, I need to be careful with scaring. If I can give up smoking till it is healed over all properly, I would be fine. But if I smoked, then I would run the risk of further infection, scars forming, bacteria growing into the exposed skin and more.

I stopped smoking. And haven't smoked in about five months. I feel no different now than I did when I smoked. And I don't think I should say I've quit, because I haven't made up my mind if I am going to. If I ever move back to the western world, I will quit as it is just way too pricey to smoke.

I quit cold turkey. I did use some gum to help from time to time, but not the nicotine gum. I quit smoking almost 6 years ago.
