If someone needs help, it can be a great program. You never know when it could be you that needs a hand. The only problem I have is that so many abuse it. It really sucks to see someone on government assistance living a much better life than my family. Or the people that earn more than I do getting food stamps! Fraud! It makes me sick! Also I hope nobody is buying a dildo why my tax dollars!

I don't typically judge, but why would you be buying from EF if you can't buy food?

I'm going to speculate here, and say that people who couldn't afford to stock up their toy collection otherwise are taking advantage of the review program and their points to get some nice things for free.

I'm not on it, my family was when I was a kid. Nothing wrong with it, and nothing to be ashamed of.

depends on how you define welfare. A person receives a check every week that's welfare, but they get write-offs for having children and that's not? What about Pell grants (which I've had) mortgage tax write-offs, electric/hybrid cars incentives and countless others? Is welfare any money from the government, or just money that's officially "welfare money"? The middle class now receives more tax dollars than it gives so in a way, aren't we all on welfare?

I've never been on welfare. I understand that it keeps many families afloat, though, and I have nothing against it.

We should have some sort of safety net in society, but it should also come with mandatory job placement assistance or training for people to learn to live without needing it. That would be a real "safety net". To have able bodied people on public assistance for years, or worse yet, for people to be on it multi-generationally, which does happen (a lot) is really to render them into a permanent sub class , and to create a group who depends on others, their whole lives, for subsistence. That is both sad and breaks down societies. If only those who really were in need, were allowed into such programs, there would be enough funds to really help most of them get out of these programs in short order.

I am disabled and completely unable to hold down a job, but I have never been on disability, welfare or any other type of government support. Before I met my husband, I just planned on killing myself whenever I ran out of the money my parents left me. I'm not saying that for effect, I really mean it. That was my plan. I'd rather be dead than a leech on society.

Though if I had children, things would be different.

Not anymore. I got it during and after high school when I couldn't find a job because my mother's income was so low. I finally got a job, had it for a while, then decided I was ready to go back to school. I have no income at the moment. I live with my dad now. His income is too high, so I don't get welfare.
