AMEN!

Agreed! It is one thing to say "In my opinion, it just doesn't look good"...but to dedicate an entire paragraph to how BAD it looks on almost everyone and compare people to CLOWNS? Come the fuck on! That is not acceptable.

I'm actually getting ready to put some bright red streaks in my hair, sometime in the next week or so. I've always wanted to do it, and now that I don't work anymore and don't have to adhere to certain appearance standards for employment, I wanted to do something wild. I really like that look that goes from black to red to orange, like fire, but I could never pull it off myself in a million years.

Don't you think it's kind of insulting to say that people with unnaturally-colored hair remind you of clowns and cartoon characters? I get that you think that, and that's cool, but is sharing it really necessary? For instance, I'm not one who is fond of tattoos, regardless of where at on the body they're placed, but I keep my opinion on that to myself, because there are many tattooed people would be hurt and/or offended by me voicing that opinion out loud.

I can't really go lighter with my complexion, but it looks cute on other people. One of my daughters (her Daddy is Polish so she has a different complexion than I do) did her hair pink this summer and it looked adorable! She had to bleach it out first (and was a bleach blond for about a week, it was also really cute) and then she had her Boy Friend's mom do the pink, as she is a Cosmetologist. It looked so cute. Then she went Cherry Red from there (it went great with her all yellow Pikachu costume for a local Anime festival.)

I can do my own dye jobs because I usually go red or dark (it's really out of my budget to go to a salon to have it done, but I'd LOVE to be able to) but when bleach is involved, I feel safer when she has a professional do it. I know people who do their own bleach outs and they know what they are doing and it looks great.

Haha number 1 is the main reason I am letting mine be natural again...I had realized that my husband has NEVER seen my natural hair color in the 9 years we've been together! I figured I should let him have a chance to see it now before it starts getting grey because when that happens I'll definitely be dyeing it again!

I think when I do start dyeing it again I'll be using the Manic Panic type stuff a lot because I love that it doesn't hurt my hair and I love the fun colors, I have Vampire Red and love how it comes out on my hair

My hair lies and tells everyone that I am old...so I teach it a lesson and color it Red Hot Cinnamon! I have had orange hair (unintentional), blue hair (intentional) and electric green (intentional). With my natural coloring I look good in browns with blonde highlights and auburns.

My natural blonde hair is extinct. I only started dyeing my hair a couple years ago. My last style was the bleached blonde top and black underneath. I couldn't keep up with the roots growing out so a couple months ago I went all black. I will stay dark for the winter months then will work on getting my blonde back in the summer. I've been thinking of purple tips but I dunno. All I know is that I want something different than one-toned hair. I prefer 2-3 tones. I do miss my natural blonde though.

Purple looks amazing on darker hair, I loved it on my medium brown but it clashed just slightly with the amount of irish red I have in my natural color. I would love to go lighter but with my dark heavy eyebrows it would look totally odd, it looks freakish when I tried on wigs so I reluctantly realized that darker colors were for me...then I found out both my guys like either red or darker hair so YAY!
I love the look of dark purple on lighter colored hair but it seems to be a rare choice.

I am sorry you took this personally, especially since I also like your hair, but I was not going to go and figure out each and every person that I needed to name that I liked and list it here, the same reason I didn't list anyone I didn't like. It was an opinion, just like any of yours. The reason I don't do it for myself is because of how I think it looks on some other people. It was not belittling, it was an explanation and again I am sorry you took it personally. I have told you on more than one occasion that I liked your hair. It is my fault that I assumed you would remember the compliment I gave you.

I also apologize to any one else who found it offensive. It was a general statement not directed at any one person because as I said, it is subjective on a case by case basis. It was not meant to belittle anyone. It is a personal opinion that I am sorry others took personally.

You are right, I could have said that I don't like how it looks on some other people and not explained why. I apologized.

LOL no, I just meant for me. I wasn't really thinking that far into the future. In the near future I am unlikely to dye my hair any color, but I wouldn't want gray hair, so I'd probably dye it at that point. That's all I meant.

I did say in my opinion. IMO. It was an explanation of my opinion of how it looks on some people. I'll apologize to you as well, whom I have also complimented before.

Did you read what I said to Airen's comment?

"I just meant for me. I wasn't really thinking that far into the future. In the near future I am unlikely to dye my hair any color, but I wouldn't want gray hair, so I'd probably dye it at that point. That's all I meant."

When I am of an older age, if I have gray hair, I will likely want to dye my hair to cover the gray hairs. Make sense?

For those who were offended I took more time to think of what I should have said to better explain my opinion without being offensive.

In my opinion, it is harder to make unnatural hair colors look good. It's either awesome or horrible. There is a fine line between the two. The chance of it not looking awesome is higher than that of dying your hair a naturally occurring color due to it simply not being natural. It automatically looks off because of that. I also should have specified that I am talking about full head color not streaks.

I should have taken more time this morning to explain it this way instead.

I'm not about to get involved in this "issue", but Cmon EF's, 3 Admins are adding fuel to the fire on this. Let it go, take it with a grain of salt, be an adult... It is impossible to please everyone in this world, and here we are arguing over dying hair.Really?! its Hair! If you are going to make an ordeal over something, at least make it worth while....

In Lauren's defense, she did say in her opinion. That's exactly what it was, an opinion. She didn't call anyone out specifically, she simply said she finds it unattractive, its not for her, and she doesn't like it on others. That's what an opinion is. That's hardly hostile or geared towards anyone.

In order for discussion to progress, you need both positives and negatives... For reviews, what good would it do if everyone raved about any product, it makes the reviews pointless if everything is great... same goes for discussions. Fact is we are all different people with different tastes and different views. You may not agree with Lauren and her view, but you too should respect it as hers to make. Agree to Disagree, let it go, be an adult, and more importantly for the EFs admins, set the tone at the top, how can you expect members of this community to be civil and mature if you yourself can't be?

Hey all,

I'm just stepping in here to say that the situation here has been dealt with privately. I have been messaging back and forth with Lauren about the many people offended over her one post and we have come to an understanding. As I'm sure you all have seen, Lauren has apologized publicly on this thread and I and the staff appreciate this.

As far as we and Lauren are concerned, this matter is closed and no further flagging or complaints are necessary.

I never died my hair. I have hair color that makes it kind of difficult to choose a dye and I just never got around to it.

I have for a while: in high school it was variations of dark brown/red or violet. I would never bleach it though, and since my natural color is dark brown the colors didn't show up too vividly. Freshman year of college I randomly decided to dye it black... and now it's a saturated turquoise with dark purple bangs. Hair dyeing is fun for me because I like to get creative, but it is kinda expensive. Also, having to wash my hair in cold water isn't fun, but it's worth it to preserve the color

Purple streaks are the way to go, especially for people with really dark hair. I put purple into my hair one time... my parents made me get rid of it, but I loved it while it lasted.

I have a thing for purple lol.

My red was unnatural. It was like a bright red crayon. I stopped with the red streaks because the red would eventually dull and leave me with lighter hair. I think the red looks better on dark brown than light brown hair. Most of my hair was becoming light brown. I let it grow out, so it's back to my natural color. After reading this thread I'm tempted to try purple or blue streaks.

You'll be the coolest bride with bright hair and tattoos blazing.

My hair can't hold a dye, I tried doing semi-perm to make it black and even used bluest-black. I have brown hair, and for some reason it turned reddish brown, not even close to black. And I tried dying it 3 times and it never went darker.

Never again, not worth the aggravation, at least to me. Too much of a time killer and I don't like my family making their odd comments.

I'm currently dyed Special Effects Pimpin Purple. I move between usually a purple or blue and a shade close to my natural color.
