Welcome! I love the deep reds that some people can pull off. When I did a dark box color I also mixed with an auburn and it was so pretty! You could only really see the red in the sunlight though. But I didn't want it to be that noticeable anyways.

Now wait a sec...you have to explain something to me. The top one washes out? While the bottom doesn't?

Lol,

Glossings are not supposed to lighten hair color, they simply deposit color ontop of the color you have. Glossings don't use peroxide strong enough to lighten hair color, thats why. So if you go for a lighter hair color than yours it won't lighten your hair, all it will do is give you the shine from the color in question (example: golden brown-you'll have a golden shine)

I don't know that it will pull the pink out unless it's like a really dark color, then it would basically sort of hide it. But the pink would stay underneath. What color did you choose?

A word of caution...if your kit came from the drug store/pharmacie they use harsher chemicals than those products used by hairdressers and it COULD lighten hair, I can't guarantee though, I have never used those types of products. Only hairdresser "professional" stuff. Seems so snobby, lol

Screw getting a real job and help me start a cult. We can dye our hair and dress like slutty goth fairies instead of wearing white robes and flowers in our hair while playing the harp. We'll limit ourselves to thorns, or poisonous or carnivorous plants for head decorations. We can still play the Harold, but only if it's electric and we tear up with it and write dirty lyrics, er, make that chants, since we'll be in a cult and all. There are enough gullible people out there to brainwash to avoid finding legitimate and meaning employment.

I've been coloring my hair since I was 14 or 15. I usually go with some shade of purple, natural looking red, bright red, or a shade of dark brown. I love being able to dye my hair on my own. I can't really remember the last time I had my natural hair color, which is a grayish brown.

Neither one of them wash out, but they do fade. Red and Pink even if it's permanent dye doesn't really last with the original brightness or color. It fades into an orangish color which I don't like at all..so I had to dye them more often.

Thanks

I do miss the red, it's so much fun. I figure by next year I'll be bored with my natural color and end up going back to it..but I promised my husband that I was gonna let it grow back alllll natural first. He doesn't seem to believe me...thinks my hair dye addiction is too great..but I'm trying to prove him wrong!

I used L'Oreal's Feria [italic}Bright Black.] It has a touch of blue in it, to keep the color cool and it keeps the natural red down. (which I like, but not when my hair is black, it looks brassy with black hair.)

I got some Beyond the Zone Color Jam 2 which the woman at Sally (A cosmotology shop) said is close to Splat or Manic Panic, but a little easier to use, and the blue is really nice and easy to use. How blue it takes is how long you leave it in. I was a little scared (because I only used the Feria a few weeks ago, the black was still there, but the blue high lights were fading and the grey was starting to grow out) so I only left it on a few minutes. It looked good (I don't have a picture) and My Man and my kids liked it, I think later today I may use it again, but leave it in the whole 20 minutes. Maybe on the underneath of my hair, near the part and at the tips.

It's good stuff, it doesn't smell bad (no peroxide) and is easy to use. They say to use a "tinting brush" which I don't have. I used cotton make up pads. It worked pretty well. You HAVE TO wash the blue off your sink and your skin right away though. It got on my acrylic nails (even though I was wearing gloves, I think either when I was cleaning it up, or when I was putting it away) and the nails are stained blue.) We have a cultured marble sink and I have to remember to put newspaper with plastic bags under it next time.

One of my daughters did her hair this color. It looked great, but it faded SO quickly! She went from Cherry Red to pink in just a few shampoos. Then she re-dyed it, and it turned maroon (which is the color I used to have all the time, and she said, "It's an old lady color!") so her boyfreind's mom did it a darker red-pink and it looked great. That was in the Spring and it's all faded out now. She's almost back to her original color.

That's why I'm alternating with the Beyond the Zone Color Jam 2 blue and believe or not, "Fancyful" black rinse. I know, the "Fancyful" is "old lady stuff" (My mom always had a bottle of the red on our tub for her hair when I was a kid) but it does put a black rinse OVER your hair until the next shampoo, and with the blue from the Jam 2, it should stay until I'm ready to use my next bottle of Feria Blue Black. (I already bought it, I have to be in the mood to do it, so I always have a bottle in my house.)

I also don't shampoo every day. It just ruins the dye job and makes it fade too quickly. TONS of conditioner, too, especially on the ends.

I'd like to try some of that Shine stuff. On top of the blue black.

Carrie Ann, what brand are you using?

I don't think I'll be going that dark again anytime soon...it is such a pain to get it out of naturally light brown hair..but when/if I do I'll definitely have to keep that in mind!

Mine would last maybe a few wekes and then start to fade slowly. That's with permanent red dye though, with the temporary stuff it didn't last even that long. I did it with manic panic once and within a week it was looking orange. My biggest issue with it is that I absolutely cannot stand my hair orange..so whenever it looks the tiniest bit orange I really start to not be able to stand it.

I love maroon hair! I've had it every shade of maroon..from a dark auburn to bright red maroon like Sharon Osbourne's. I love Sharon's hair and she's the perfect example of how fun hair is ageless!

Man all this talk makes me want to go red just in time for Christmas..I could look like a festive elf! LOL I definitely think I'm gonna have to at least do some streaks!

If it's a clear kit it should only add shine and bind your color in. If the peroxide strength you have is greater than 10 (usually its 10-15 for glossings then it goes up 20-30-40)I would be worried.

I'm not crazy about orange on myself, either. My complexion doesn't support that coloring. That's why I never bleach out my hair. I have too much melanin, and bleach always leaves it brassy or coppery looking.

The first time I dyed my hair was when it was "cool" to dye your "wings." (Yeah, I'm that old. ) They turned coppery orange and I didn't know how to get the color back (I was only about 13 or 14) my mother told me redying it would turn it green (she was probably wrong) so I had to let it grow out. UG.

Bright Red for Christmas would be SO cute.

As for going really dark, no I don't think I'll ever get it out, unless I were to go for a professional bleach job, which I'm not going to do. I've been maroon and shades of red for so long, I like the newness of the blue black, so I think I'll leave it like this for a long time.

Show us if you do it Red for Christmas. What about a single green streak? Total coolness.

Oh, the Glossing kits have peroxide in them? Peroxide is not good for black hair. Maybe I'll not do that on mine. I know, like virtually nothing about hair and stuff, I just go on what people I know tell me.

I finally got mine out by using this box from Sally's that gets the dye out of your hair. It made my hair orangish blonde, but I then just put some blonde dye over top with some toner and did it that way. It actually wasn't too bad but my hair was a super short almost pixie at the time, so the damage was minimal.

Yup, in fact to get my hair died black when I went from white blond to black I used peroxide, the softer kind which is used to seal in color. The stronger peroxides (20,30,40) basially lighten natural hair color and the coloring chemicals enter and alter the hair color. The softer peroxide (10-15) does not bleach hair, it just "deposits" the color. Hope that clears that up.

So, if my hair is dyed Blue Black, a "soft" peroxide wouldn't lighten it, but a stronger one would? Would I be better off going to a salon for this? (Like I have the bucks for this, now. ) But, for the future, I'm assuming most of the commercially available stuff is "hard" peroxide in the glossing kits?

In our state, certain things you buy at Sally requires a Cosmetologist's license, but I guess I could ask the woman who works there.

I'm assuming, "don't buy the glossing kit at Walgreens, if you have really dark hair. Unless you know what you are doing." Right, is that what you are saying? Either that or have a pro do it?

I've dyed my hair a couple times, never liked how it came out and only did it because I couldn't afford the salon. Now I don't touch my hair unless the salon does it.

Basically if you were going from black to brown you would need to lighten your hair color to get te right tone/shade so you would need soemthing strong, but if you are going from ight to dark then you only need soemthing to deposit the color to make it darker. Glossings are a lot less damaging to hair

I think that if your hair is blue black and you buy a box of brown hair coloring from walgreens and you apply it...your color won't change much, appart from the fact that the blue reflection would probably disapear depending on the type of brown you have. It might not look nice.

If you want to refresh your color by all means use the same product! There won't be any issues with reapplying the same color ontop of the same color

Personally, in hairdresser school and in mainstream hairdressing we do not like pharmacie products bcs they are very harsh on hair and sometimes change hair color in unpredictable ways, they are unreliable. But I understand how much easier it is to just buy a box or two and do it at home, its more cost effective. It's easier to go darker than to go lighter and going lighter as you were saying earlier doesn't always end up pretty.
