Do you look your age?

Contributor: sillylilkitten sillylilkitten
Do you look like you're the age you are? I look much younger than I am, and while I know that "I'll appreciate it when I'm older," right now it's just very frustrating being treated like a child and not taken seriously. And I know that as much as he hates to admit it, it does make my bf a bit embarrassed to be seen with someone who looks so young, especially since he's already a few years older than me as it is. Anyone else have any problems with not looking their age? Do people mistake you for being a different age even if you don't think you look older/younger than you are?

A lot of people think I'm way younger than I am. While I appreciate it sometimes, I don't particularly appreciate it in a professional setting. It makes it much harder to be taken seriously, especially as I head into my 30s. Trying to dress "older" doesn't really help since I just look like I stole Mom's work clothes and makeup for the day.

Anyway, give it time. We all look "old" eventually.

Nah I'm often mistaken for being a teenager - and most of this is because of my height I suppose. I don't particularly dress to appear a certain way just what I find appealing and/or is comfortable.

I think I look about my age, but my wife looks nothing like a 50 year old. She looks hot and younger than me and I'm 44.

I look nothing like my age. I'm 23 and I've been asked if my 30th birthday is coming up ._. When I have makeup on though, I look like a teenager. I blame my mother for all that. But in the long run...when I'm in my 40's I'll probably look my age. Not a single woman in my family looks her age at all. They mainly look younger with me as the exception (without makeup that is).

I used to look older, but that is because I am usually more mature then my peers. I think I am finally starting to equal out. My bf, looks more then 5 years younger then he is. So since he is older then me we even out. =)

People used to always think I looked younger, but I think I look my age at this point. When I was 22 years old I was talking with someone about my two kids when another woman over heard our conversation and came over to me. She touched my arm, looked at my face for a moment and said, "There's no way you have two kids!" I asked what she meant. She said that she didn't even think I was old enough for high school yet! WOW! That surprised me!

People are usually shocked when I tell them my age. They assume I am about 10 years younger. Hated it when I was really young, but at my age now, its a regular bonus. I also love getting carded whenever I order a drink.

Mistaken for younger all the time. I think keeping out of the sun and generally good skin genes are the reasons; I also think my lack of more worldly experiences contributes to it, too. Possibly also my social awkwardness.

It happened twice just this past week: one of my workshop co-participants started freaking out when I mentioned I had been married for ten years and divorced only a few years ago, and asked if I was a child slave bride ("You don't look any older than 20!"); then my yoga instructor was quite surprised when I mentioned my age, as she pegged me for my early 20's and C for mid-20's (we're the same age).

I find it's actually an advantage at my time of life/development, as no one would be as helpful to me if they knew I was 35 ("You should know all this shit already!") and it gives me an "excuse" for making mistakes ("You're young, you'll get used to it.").

Still getting carded eight years after my 21st birthday.

I'm 20, but depending on how I do my hair and whether I wear my glasses, I'm told I can look anywhere from 16 to 25. (And I rarely get carded at clubs and bars.)
