What is your favorite type of pool water?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
There are now many choices beyond Chlorine. Some are salt water, some have ozone or ionization filtered water, and others are "soft water" types.

Have you experienced different types of pools? What is your favorite and why?

We now have an Ionized pool at the workout facility I use and it is so nice. No bad smell or taste and my hair comes out so nice!!! Even my bathing suit stays nice, soft and the colors bright.

Any opinions on this from others?

Salt water pools are the only alternative to a traditional chlorine pool I've experience and I have to say it is a rather nice swim. As you said, my hair stays soft as does my suit and my skin. I wish we had been able to go more this year (at night when all the kiddies are in bed), but it's been raining so damn much!

I hate chlorine. The smell really annoys me. I love salt water pools though!

I didn't know that the other non-chlorine types were so available these days; I haven't kept track. I am allergic to chlorine after swimming a lot as a child. I had to stop in high school, couldn't even get a whiff of it. Oh, I would love to swim again! Now, I have tubes in my ear drums and can't risk it *sigh*

A little known fact is that salt water pools actually create a small level of chlorine as that is what keeps the bacteria from building. No where near as high as traditional chlorine pools.

It doesn't matter much to me except that salt water burns the eyes lol

@shorejen9 Strangely, I've always felt that chlorine burns my eyes more. As for salt water pools having some chlorine, that's a given since salt is sodium chloride and by nature has chloride in it. It doesn't annoy me like chlorine pools do, though!

@Wicked Wahine A similar thing happened to me and chlorine. When I get out of any chlorine pool now my skin gets really dry and horrible... it's just not worth it. It's a shame you can't swim anymore though!

I've only experienced chlorine pools and I have no problem with them. I actually like it more when you can really smell the chlorine.. I'm odd, I know.

Agreed, I don't like swimming in salt water pools. Also, I kind of like the subtle chlorine smell my skin gets after swimming.

I prefer salt water pools. We have a chlorine pool and try to keep the chlorine level at the right balance to avoid that over chlorinated feeling on your body so I don't mind ours too much.

Wow. I had nice skin feel with the ozone pool. I didn't think the salt water would be gentle on the skin or bathing suit. Nice to hear it is. Going to have to try one of those soon!

I just cannot imagine it is good for skin...or for your lungs either, really. Last time I checked, Chlorine gas was a serious battlefield weapon in WW1.

I am now picky about what pools I will and won't get into.
