For those of you with houses....do you do your own yard work?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
Do you mow, trim, edge, rake your own yard, or do you have a service, or local kids do it? (Or your own kids, for that matter)?

I see more and more homes with professional services parked out front every couple of weeks. I was wondering how many do their own thing...and who does it because they enjoy yard work (I do, unless it is too darned hot out)!

I do my own yard work because I enjoy it. I could afford a service, but don't want one.

My kids do it. They are my "service".
I hire local kids, not my own.
I have a service do it.

I just graze llamas on the grasses.
I have a home, but don't have a lawn to mow.

We take care of our plants ourselves and do our own landscaping and such, but we do hire a service to mow our lawn.

We own our home, and it's my husband who does the yard work. There's no way we could afford landscaping/lawn care services, but even if we could, I'm sure I'd find better things to spend the money on.

My homeowners association is supposed to do it, but they don't do a very good job, so I have to do some stuff on my own. I hate yardwork

I have the college kid across the street (who now runs it as a business, so I answered service), cut the grass, but I do the rest, as I can. This year has been bad for me health wise, so no flowers or huge garden. But I fully intend to get started on my organic veggie garden and fruit orchard! I just moved into this house last year, so I need to establish all the raised beds and put up deer control fencing. Once the bulk of the work, the raised beds, are done, it's much less work. I don't even have to shovel the soil stays so friable when in a raised bed that you don't step on (I will either double dig, or more likely, broadfork the ground first.) So, I expect much of the yard work will be done by me in the future, just not the grass cutting anymore, it's too hard on me to use a push reel mower on an acre once, or more a week, so I pay the service! (I can't use loud machines or be around exhaust.)

We landscape because we want to and we are also in the landscape business.

I wish I could afford for someone else to do it, mostly because my mower sucks. Otherwise I have no problem doing it myself.

We have an acre and do our own yard work. Even if we could afford to have someone else do it for us--we would spend the money elsewhere....

My hubby is mostly the one who takes care of it. We purposefully got a house that didn't have a gigantic yard so it's really not very hard to take care of. I've tossed around the idea of hiring a service to come in and make it all pretty. But really it seems like it would be a waste of money because we have the time and we're capable of doing it ourselves. Plus, there's always something I can find that I'd rather spend my money on - like more toys

We both do the landscaping with him doing the bulk of it. Many of our neighbors have gardening companies. We started out with low income and did our own yardwork. Thu the yrs we have accumulated many tools and equiptment. Does seem right to pay someone when we can do it and also have so much equipment. One day maybe we will. When we are really old and not able.

I live at home. My parents have a yard service.

But growing up, when my father did do the yard work, I weeded, raked leaves, and scraped up clippings.

Look on Amazon. Great prices for mowers. Some are highly rated and well under $300. In fact, for less then $200 you can buy a great "self propelled" mower even!
