Have you ever been to a Psychiatrist?

Contributor: GONE! GONE!
Nope. I went to a social worker once because for some reason my doctor thought talking to her would give me better insight into my phobia than an actual trained psychiatrist...? It didn't end well, lol.

Yes. I used to have issues with depression and I saw psychiatrists and psychologists.

I found the psychologists generally helpful. It felt good to be able to talk through my problems with someone who knew how to listen and when I talked to someone specializing in cognitive/behavioral therapy, they taught me coping strategies which have kept me from getting depressed again since and which have made my life overall more enjoyable and effective.

As for psychiatrists, these days they mainly just dispense meds; they didn't take enough time with me even to prescribe the RIGHT meds. I remember a friend suggesting a drug she'd heard about; I mentioned it to my psychiatrist and he immediately prescribed it for me! I found that a little disturbing. I decided to "test" him. The next time I saw him, I asked about a drug which I knew to be for a completely different condition. Guess what? He prescribed that one for me, too! In the end, I found St. John's Wort worked better than any prescription drug ever did, and without the side effects.

Needless to say, I have a lot more faith in psychologists than in psychiatrists.

No, I don't think I would need a psychiatrist. If I would talk to anyone it would maybe be a psychologist since I wouldn't think I need meds for it. I have a friend thats a psychologist and I have a few other friends that cn help talk me through anything for free.

Yep. I have some mild depression and anxiety issues I'm working through. Feeling a lot better these days, though!

Yep, but I hated the drugs they put me on. I did finally find a psychologist I loved who helped me make a lot of progress, but my insurance stopped covering mental health and I had to stop seeing her.
