Only so much some people can do to prepare. The ones with the most resrouces will be able to get through the collapse better than those without. I just hope everyone lends a hand to one another and help eachother get through it.
Other than that, it's good to do what you can to stock up on the basics (food, hygiene, etc). I wanted to do a garden so I could can this year and it didn't work out. Our really good friends have a HUGE pantry full of beautiful canned veggies and jams that came from their garden. I plan to do this for sure next year.
Coupons can help with stocking up on some things.

I just choose not to do it in this area since I can't possibly predict what will happen or what I'll need.

I tend to not be one to worry.... what will be will be, ya know??? I am a very resourceful person, and usually turn downturn and disaster into something good, so truly I know I will be ok.
I do feel very sad and empathetic for all those who have lost so much already (homes, retirement, etc.) due to economic issues.
